[identity profile] tableforfour.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
We find out next week if we're having a boy or a girl. I'm really excited but having a hard time with names. My brother in law just passed away in July and I'm actually due a few days after his birthday. His name was Nathan and for a girl, we've decided on the name Natalie. It's a feminine version of Nathan and it means "birth day" so it's pretty perfect.

As for a boy...we're having some issues. We had our sons name picked out FOREVER and I guess we're spent on boy names haha.

We liked Derek at first (after the main character in American History X.) That character reminds us of his brother in SO many ways (jail, skinhead, then reformed into a good guy) but now we don't really LOVE that...

Then I thought when he was going to have a baby with his ex-wife they picked out the name Caleb if it was a boy...the baby never happened though and so I wondered if it would be wrong to take that name... plus my husband wants to spell it with a K because he is Kyle, his mom is Kathy, and our son is Kade and I HATE when people do that.

So, what do you think? Is it appropriate, should I ask my MIL and see if she cares/thinks it's a poor choice?

Thank you.

Kade and Kaleb? isn't that too close for a sibset?

In my mind, actually, even Caleb and Kade would be too close.

Don't spell it Kaleb. It's tacky, and it looks too similar to Kyle, Kathy, and Kade.

I love Natalie.

What about using Nathan as a middle name for a boy, in honor of his brother?

Derek Nathan sounds nice.

Oh, sorry, I guess I didn't read what you were saying the right way.

I like Caleb, and I think if it was his EX wife (I'm assuming they divorced, and then he passed away?), then it shouldn't matter. I'd think it was inappropriate if they were still married when he died, or if she was still really a part of the family, but if she's not really a part of the family anymore, I don't think it's a big deal.

Caleb and Kade are still really similar, though.

I wouldn't worry about it, then. Use Caleb, but definitely ignore your husband and spell it with a C, lol. Caleb Nathan is beautiful. I actually think Caleb Nathaniel sounds better with a last name tacked on, but Caleb Nathan sounds good, too.

Ooh, Torey, Caleb Nathaniel sounds awesome with your last name. I'd just be worried about the "Kay-Kay, I mean Kade, I mean Caleb!" thing happening all the time.

I think it'll be ok to name the boy Caleb if the two of you agree on it. As far as Natalie goes, I think it's a beautiful name and it's definitely on my top list for girls. And as far as Nathan goes, why not Caleb Nathan?

I totally understand this statement. (unfortunately) For what it's worth, I love Natalie :) Caleb and Kade are really close, not to mention I really don't care for Kaleb. How about Nathaniel?

I wouldn't settle for Caleb if it's just a "this will work"...
You and your husband will find something both of you like as a boys name. Just keep looking and thinking.
Look at other boy names that begin with K(not that you'd have to change to start with K).. Kevin, Keith, etc.

I think Natalie is a beautiful name, though. =)

Kaleb and Kade are way too close. Why not use Nathan?

Natalie is beautiful.

I really like Nathaniel! You could call him Nat. ;) Like Caleb Nathaniel or Nathaniel Caleb. I will agree and say with everyone else that I don't like like it with a "K" at all.
Good Luck!

I agree with Caleb instead of Kaleb. If you want to honor the brother and don't want to use Nathan, you could always use Caleb as a middle name and cross your fingers you and hubby find a first name that you both agree on and love!
