My favourite first/middle name combo is Theodore James.
My mother hates it because she says it reminds her of a chipmunk.

What names do you associate with people/characters/things?
Does this negatively influence the way you view the name?

It does make me think of Alvin and the chipmunks a little. Although, it also makes me think of Theodore Roosevelt.

I don't think it's a negative association though, I mean, not everyone is going to think of the chipmunks. It's not like naming a girl Paris :) LOL Ms. Hilton ruined that name.

Teddy bears were named after him!

And...wow, no one's seen Alvin and the Chipmunks in *how* long, and that's her association?

I love Theodore Alan and James Kenneth. I think of Theodore Roosevelt, not the chipmunks.

My mother hates Daphne because of the Scooby Doo thing, and my dad hates it because his mother had a cat named Daphne. I love the name because of the Greek myth.

I can't use Henry or Henrietta because my sister-in-law has an abusive dick of an ex named Henry.

I've given all my pets people names! That way, when/if I have children, there will be less names to choose from! I've already scratched Scarlett, Jack, Violet, Milton, Basil and Beckett off the list. :)

I have a separate list of names I love but I know I couldn't give to a child, like Boudicca, Jemima, Rocco, Phaedrus, Vivica, Brutus, Hermione, Credo, Ianthe, Juniper, and Auralee.

My friend's mother named her dog Brianna because she loved the name so much, then she had another child, and she couldn't use Brianna! She ended up using Brooke instead.

I have a dog named Roxie, and my cat's name is Friskey. I named the dog. She was originially named Rexie, a name I couldn't stand. We changed it to Roxie, because it's spunkier, more feminine, and just not as silly sounding. My fiance named Friskey when he was seven, so he's excused for that one. *g*

I like the name Luna, and even though I've never read the Harry Potter books, that is all I can think of.

I can associate pretty much every name with something or someone, so unless it has a really bad history (like I'd never use Gary because of my evil-ex-step-father), I'm probably not going to let it influence me.

Plus except for the live-action Chipmunk movie that's coming out in a few weeks, the Chipmunks haven't been popular in at least a decade. I wouldn't worry too much about people hearing the name and immediately thinking of the Chipmunks.

I have the same problem with name associations. I know people who think of Ted Bundy when they hear Theodore, but I don't.

And I want to bash skulls in for the live-action Chipmunks movie. I loved the cartoons as a kid, and the higlight of their commercials involved Alvin eating Theodore's poo. I gagged and almost cried.

I don't have a TV, so I haven't seen any of the commercials. But that just sounds disgusting. *sigh* Why are they even bothering making a live-action movie?

I never would have thought of Ted Bundy, myself. Plus naming your kid "after" a serial killer doesn't mean he's going to become one.

Be glad you haven't seen the commercial. I saw it in a movie theatre a few months ago, and I was so pissed off. I have never seen a good live-action cartoon movie. They're just bad, and practically ruin my memories of childhood cartoons.

My parents both love Theodore, but my fiance said "I'm not naming a kid after Ted Bundy!" It's going to take a bit of convincing to get Theodore on the short list.

Good luck on the convincing!

A friend wants to see the movie, but now I'm going to recommend something else. I don't know why they want to bother with a live-action version. They usually do end up sucking and turning off people from the original versions (which are much better).

Well, when I read Theodore I *do* think of chipmunks....but when I hear Theo I just think it is a lovely name. Teddy makes me think of Theodore Roosevelt again.
But really, Theodore James is a very dignified name, I enjoy saying it!

I've only known one nice Kimberly and I've known a lot of Kimberlys. It makes me prejudiced against them and the name which I know is awful.

I think the chipmunk association just makes Theodore more cute.

I would never name my child Brittany b/c of Ms. Spears, ugh. Or Paris. Or Nicole. Etcetera.

See, the name doesn't make me think of Alvin & The Chipmunks at all, and I think Theo or TJ would both be really cute names. I like the combo.

Elliot always makes me think of the character on Law & Order: SVU, which is a plus, and Eleanor always makes me think of Eleanor Roosevelt, which, again, is a plus.

I have such a thing against the name Christian, too! Why not use the name of a saint or a biblical character you respect instead of the name of a religion? I like some names of biblical characters, but not because they're biblical characters.

A little off topic and random.. but I know a Christian that isn't a Christian.. and uhm.. his mom isn't either. I find that so weird.. but yeah.

I definitely think of the chipmunks. That doesn't really make me hate it though. I think it's cute but I just wouldn't use the two names together.

My brother's gf suggested the name of my baby's father to me.. I freaked out. It's a normal name.. so the freakout probably wasn't called for.. but it just bothered me a little. I couldn't help it. I couldn't name a kid anything that reminded me too much of any certain person.. if I liked that person or not. I guess it's all sort of a individual thing for me.. I'm not personally close to anyone with any name in my favorites list.
Elliott is my favorite boy name.. and it sometimes makes me think of T.S. Eliot, Elliott Smith, and a boy I went to school with but was never close to. But I don't automatically think of one when I hear the name.

Kate reminds me of Titanic..
Elizabeth makes me think of "Queen Elizabeth".. same thing with Diana, William, James, and other such names.
Maggie makes me think of Maggie Gyllenhaal.. but that's def. not bad to me.
Adam makes me think of Adam Sandler.
Rose and Sophia makes me think of Golden Girls.
Dorothy makes me think of the Wizard of Oz.
Willy makes me think of Willy Wonka.
lol... the list can really go on for a while.

I have an aversion to all forms of "Megan." I've never known a nice one. Megans are bad, Meagans are worse, and Meghans are the worst. At least, that's just my experience. I've also known an Amanda so hateable, she ruined the name for me.
