[identity profile] cherrysorbet.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
This was prompted by an earlier post and got me thinking...

Megan
Meagan
Meaghan
Meghan

Any more variations? Which do you all prefer and how would pronounce each of them? Just interested in this name very much (I love the name Megan whoops! typo on the first one! especially, definitely on my top list) and would appreciate any feedback on it! :D

I prefer Megan and I can deal with Meghan. Too many extra e's or a's and the whole name starts to bug me. My cousin and a kid I graduated with were both Megans but I've also known a few Meghans.

I pronounce them all the same, MEH-gən.

My favorite spelling is Megan, followed by Meghan.

I like Megan, Meghan and Maegan (Last one you didn't list, so there's another variation)

My name!

I spell it Megan.
I went to school with another Megan, a Meghan and a Meaghan. I prefer my spelling followed by Meghan. Meaghan has too many extras for me.

And I hate when people call me Meeee-gan. My neighbour's name is Meeeegan and I refuse to say it. So I call her 'John's wife' (because he's lived there longer....and I have a crush on him.) =P

* The only thing I don't like about my name is that my last name is Gray. I don't like the double G's.

Megan Gray. Do you guys think it sounds bad? It bothered me for the longest time.

Actually I just disliked my last name. But after watching Catch and Release I'm kind of starting to appreciate the name Gray for being kind of likable. =]

Lots of talking, I know,...sorry.

As far as I'm concerned, there's only one pronunciation, MEE-gan. I've known lots with that pn, and no one with any others.

Spelling-wise, I like Megan and Meghan. The a's throw me off.

That's interesting, I've always only heard Meg-an, and I found out about the Mee-gan thing only in this community.

I've heard that pronunciation before, but never actually known anyone who pronounced it like that, and to be honest, I think it's awful. :-\

I like Megan best as the others look too fussy. I suppose if you wanted to pronounce it MEE-gan instead of MEG-an then the second spelling wouldn't look to bad either, but I don't like that pronounciation. I've never heard anyone in the UK pronounce it any way other than MEG-an.

I definately prefer Megan to any of the others.
I pronounce them all the same, but any extra letters in there make me want to pronounce it like MEE-gan or Meg-HAN!

Only Megan sounds legit to me, but I hear Meghan is quite used.
I pronounce Meagan as Mee-gan, so the name changes to me in that spelling.
Meaghan has just too many letters.

I like Megan the best too. That's probably because I grew up close friends with a Megan and didn't know "Meghan" and all the rest of the variations even existed until I was in highschool. But.. she pronounced her name "Meg-ann" so that's how I usually pronounce it.. regardless of spelling. =)

I pronounce them all the same and only like Megan.

Mine is Meaghan, pronounced "May-gen". My mom found it in a list of Gaelic names at some point in her pregnancy, that was the point of the extra letters for her.

My sister's name is Megan (pronounced May-gen) - This is the spelling I prefer. She also knows a Meggien (pronounced May-gen). I have a friend Meghan (pronounced MEE-gan). My sister Megan hasn't ever had her name mis-pronounced as far as I know... but my friend Meghan has hers pronounced May-gen all the time. There ya go! :)

I prefer Megan.

I've seen Megan, Meghan, Meagan, Meaghan, Meighen, Magen, Magan, and (possibly the worst one EVER) Meagh'n.

I never figured out whether that was her given name, or if her name was Meaghan, but she was trying to be "cool".

One of my BFFs is Meghan, so I'm more partial to that spelling. Megan is fine too, though BFF!Meghan and her mother have convinced me that Megan should rhyme with Regan, which is pronounced REE-gan.

And I prefer my spelling. Short & sweet! The extra letters annoy me.
So does anyone who calls me MEEGAN!

Megan, pronounced MEG-an. Absolutely Strongly Dislike other spellings and especially other pronunciations. MEEgan and MAYgan both just sound less classy.

I'm a Meghan--I'm so used to seeing it spelled my way that Megan looks different to me!

I had a best friend named Megan when I was little.

I hate people who pronounce it Mee-gan or May-gan. I've seen it spelled Meggin once--horrible. Someone tried spelling my name Meggiann. Wow.
