In the random fact book I'm reading at the moment ('Everything You Didn't Need To Know About The UK') I came across lists of the top ten names for dogs (male and female) in the UK. Anyway, I just found it interesting that - with the exception of Buster - they are all "human" names, even if a lot of them are a little nicknamey.

Male
1. Max
2. Charlie
3. Ben
4. Jake
5. Barney
6. Jack
7. Buster
8. Toby
9. Jasper - my dog was called this!
10. Oscar

Female
1. Molly
2. Holly
3. Rosie
4. Poppy
5. Lucy
6. Ellie
7. Tess
8. Meg
9. Bonnie
10. Daisy

i only have one dog with a human name and she picked it herself because she wouldn't answer to anything else.. she's also the one that started the "S" trend with all my pets..

My dog is called Charlie ... knew it was common, but wow that kinda sucks. It is a family name though (after my great grandfather) so still would have used it.
For animal companions I like to use uncommon 'people' names, with some kind of meaning behind them (e.g Charlie's mn is Cash, because he's black and 'sings').

Of Charlie's friends there's a Holly, Lucy, Tess and Bonnie. I guess Harry and Josh (his 'cousins') fit the name trend too.

Incidentally a lot of those names are popular for human babies too. :)

My dog is Charlie.
Some of his "friends" are Max, another Charlie, Tilly, Sophie, Jasper and Hamlet.
Apart from Tess and Meg, all the female names end in a 'y' sound.

For someone who will not use popular names, I sure went against it when I named my dog, Lucy. I belong to an LJ group called KittyPix and I've noticed there are quite a few cats named Willow and Fiona, two of my cats, but not very many Lilli/Lily/Lili etc, which shocks me because that is more popular in humans.
