Few questions as I am now on MATERNITY LEAVE as of today! and am board at home.

So.
-What do you think of the name Edward? Is Ned a good nn for it? I personally don't really like Eddie.
-How do you pronounce Isolde?
-Is it too weird to have a constant letter for a middle name? Like Theodore James, Scarlett June, April Juliet and Miles Johann?
-Is it okay to have more than one middle name?

Um. I think thats it. lol

I love Edward:) My favorite nicknames for it are Teddy and Ward, but I like Ned, too. It makes me think of the TV show Judging Amy because the main character's brother and his wife named their son Ned. I thought it was really cute:)

The constant letter for a middle name doesn't bother me that much, because it's not as obvious and it's not quite as cutesy. PS, I love all of those names you just listed, except for April.

I actually like the more than one middle name thing. I've considered that myself, but I'm not sure if I'd ever do it.

1. I really like Edward in theory, but my fiance loves that 90's show, Ed, Edd, and Eddy, so I can't picture myself using it. I do really like the nicknames Ned and Ward. We have a local news anchor that goes by Ward.

2. I go with something like ee-SOULD or ee-SULT. I can't quite figure out how to show the vowel sound I say, kind of between the sound of soul and sound.

3. No. It's not like you're going all Duggar on us and using the same letter for the FIRST name. That's tacky. Middle names are fine to do that with, in my book. I really really like Theodore James, as Theodore Alan is on my short list. I like Scarlett a lot, and Miles is okay. Not digging April, but that's mainly because of this family I went to school with: April, July, December, June, and Patrick. Yes, Patrick. Patrick and July were boys, and April, December, and June were girls. I hated the theme thing, and how they just gave it up at number five. WTF? Also, April and December were real bitches.

4. I don't like the two middle name thing. I grew up with a friend named Sarah Delia Wallack Nagle. Now, Delia Wallack was her middle name. She had trouble with background checks for jobs, with forms that say "middle initial", and with plane tickets because people want to make her name Sarah Delia (Wallack) Nagle or Sarah (Delia) Wallack-Nagle when it's not. I just don't see the point.

Hahahahahahahaha that is the best argument I've ever heard for NOT using theme naming, and if you do, to STICK WITH IT. That just sounds ridiculous!

Doesn't it? Even better, April and December were twins born in March, June was the oldest, then July, then the twins, then Patrick. I would have thought if your first two are June and July, wouldn't the next two be August and September? Come on! My mother worked at my school, so after July and I graduated, the twins graduated the next year, and their brother Patrick started at my school that year. I knew they had a brother, and I asked my mom what his name was. I had been betting on January or October. I thought she was kidding when she said Patrick.

I also grew up next door to a woman who had grown daughters Tammy and Danielle. I found out years later, when Tammy got married, her legal name was September. Danielle's was Danielle. I still find that silly.

Haha, the crazy off the wall names totally weird me out, especially when they have ONE sibling with a normal name. Heather Armstrong, whose blog is dooce.com has two siblings: a brother named Ranger, and a sister named September. And then...Heather. Hahaha. It cracks me up because it's just so random!

Edward is one of my favorites, although I somewhat guiltily admit that I prefer Edmund. I don't really like any nicknames I've encountered for Edward, although Eddie's grown on me because of a friend of mine who goes by that. I don't like Teddy (reminds me of a coworker) or Ned (reminds me of Owen Wilson in The Life Aquatic...or Homer Simpson's neighbor). I've never considered Ward before, but it sounds too much like "wart" for my taste.

I've heard of several pronunciations for Isolde, my favorite of which is ih-ZOL-duh. I get the impression most people say Ee-ZOLD, though.

The common middle initial seems cutesy in theory, but I don't think it would be too noticeable in real life, unless you used something uncommon, like Q names or X names. My boyfriend's mother and father had the same middle initials. My boyfriend has the same middle name as his father and his sister has the same middle name as their father. So they all have the same middle initial (in this case, an L, which I don't think stands out too much). There's something I like about it.

I don't see anything wrong with having two middle names. It sort of seems pointless, but it's probably a nice way to honor someone whose name you don't want to use as the first. I always use my middle initial when writing my name out, so I've always thought there would be something vexing about having two--do you use both, or just the first, or just your favorite? I'm sure I'm just being weird and anal about it, but I think in that situation, I'd use both initials, and that would just look funny. My niece with two middle names would be Katherine S.S. Lastname, which is just...bad. But maybe your kid wouldn't be so insistant on that.

My fiance's name is Edward, he goes by Ed, and he despises Eddie. He won't answer to it, and will actually get quite ticked if someone calls him that. I don't like Ned, personally.

Edward is not my style, but it's an old time classic. As for nicknames, the one that comes more natural to me is Dod, for some reason. Ned only reminds me of Ned Flanders (The Simpsons)

I pronounce Isolde as Ease-OWL-deh, but I live in Italy.

I don't think it's weird to have the same middle name initial, actually I think it might be cute :)

In countries outside the US it's frequent to have 2 middle names, Italy for example does 2 or none, because of the Roman tradition.

I like Edward! My brother had a friend growing up named Edward, and when he was little he went by Eddie (which he didn't like) so he started going by Ned. I'm not a big fan of Ned as it reminds me of Ned Flanders, but other than that, its a fine nickname.

I pronounce Isolde ee-ZOLD to rhyme with the word sold

I think the same letter middle name thing is fine, but I wouldn't do two middle names. I really don't like it.

You do get a second name but it isn't your legal name. :)

- I like Ned, it's cute:)
- I like the middle initail tie to all the kids
- I was thinking about two middle names, my family really wants me to carry on one name, and I want to honor my Uncle who passed away the same time last year as our baby is due this year.

i'm not a fan of Edward, or any of its nicknames.

Isolde i've heard said like: ee-zold or iz-old. i think i say it more like ee-zold. i'm saying it out loud right now lol.

i don't think it's weird to have a constant letter. i see it a lot, & unless the names rhyme or have similiar hard sounds, i think it's fine.

my son has two middle names. i don't see a problem with it... unless you have like 10 middle names, that's a liiiiittle excessive haha.

woooh for materinity leave!

I think Edward is fine, but I love Ned..definitely prefer it to Eddie.
I know a Ned who is known by nothing else, it works great.

iss-old

Absolutely not. It's fine to use any letter as long as it flows. Theodore James is wonderful.

Sure, as many names as you want!

I like Edward. Ditto, Ward sounds nice. And I like Ned too, I think it is so cute. HATE Ed and Eddy a LOT.

2nd middle names are quite common and i think they are nice. Usually Catholics and Jews get a second middle name anyway, although it isn't a legal name.

To me, similar middle letters are cutesy, but if tastefully done it could work. I like it much better than the first names all starting with the same letter!!

Props to Isolde (I always said Es-SOLD) I love literary names, :)

I think Edward is an ok name (just not my style =)) and Ned is a way better nn than Eddie ;)

I pronounce it Ee-sol-deh (but then again, I'm not in an English-speaking country...if I were, I'd pronounce it Ee-sold)

Similar middle name letters aren't weird. Why would it be? Just because it's the same letter? It's not like those are the same names, right? =)

Second middle names are fine. Great actually. I like it =)

-I don't like Ned as a nn for Edward. Ned is nowhere in the name, and I'm not fond of nns that have nothing to do with the original name. If you don't like Eddie, then how about Ward?

-EE-zold

-No, I don't think it's a bad thing. It's better than having a constant letter for the first name.

-I'm not a fan of it, personally.

I LOVE the name Edward. It is my first choice for a boy's name, although I would pick the French spelling as my side of the family is French. (Édouard)

Ned =/= nickname

I don't like Eddie either... and watch out for the nickname "Special Ed".

Our son will more than likely have two middle names (Olivier Ellery, after both our grandpas)

1. There's a kid at the school I work with whose name is Edward, and everyone calls him Ned. It works well. I like it.

2. I'd pronounce it Eye-szol-d

3. No.

4. Certainly not.
