[identity profile] babyjess8.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

I’m bored so decided to give a run down of some interesting names.
According to SSA’s baby girl names (from 800-1000 in the top 1000 ALONE!) in the decade beginning 2000 – so the past six years (brackets denote number of children named this!):

Sherlyn (2,003)
Jaylynn (1,985)
Jasmyn (1,939)
Katelin(1,900)
Aylin (1,872)
Devyn (1,752)
Madalynn (1,701)
Joslyn (1,692)
Kayden (1,511)
Addyson (1,488)
Roselyn (1,475)
Jaylene (1,463)
Jaylyn (1,353)
Jalynn (1,278)
Ashtyn (1,243)
Kalyn (979)

Notice the pattern??
And ones worth mentioning:

I beg to differ. Norah is spelled with an excess letter, Rowan is mostly used for girls, which is wrong, Hillary, Kinsey, and Harper are originally surnames, and Kaci is just bad as anything besides a nickname.

not to mention Kinsey being the surname of a controversial sex researcher..

I like the name Harper, but mostly as a middle name =)
Rowan is pretty too.

But wow...calling your child 'Baby' is even worse than, let's say, 'Jaylyn'.
What if that kid wants to go to medschool? Or anything like that? Pffsht.
Roselyn is not's so bad, I think.

My impression is that any parent that officially names their child "Baby" doesn't plan on med school being in that child's future. Most likely they envision a career in the entertainment industry ::cough cough::

Journey is actually a guilty pleasure of mine. Rowen is my top girl name (with an e because I like Wren as a nn) and I think Harper is fabulous!

My husband's grandfather's name was legally Baby Boy because his parents couldn't decide on a name before his birth certificate was filed. He didn't find out until he went to join the Army, haha.

Roselyn is pretty decent...but the other "lyn" names look a little weird with the extra y's and all.

Ah, Journey. They're a great band. =D

Norah, Rowan, and Harper aren't too bad...

I beg to differ about the name Hillary. Worst Name Ever, imo. I mean, clearly not as bad as Baby, but certainly tied with the horrors of "Jasmyn" or "Addysyn" or "Jaylynn."
My parents almost named me that and I am so glad they didn't--it is ugly and masculine, and personally, I have never met any Hillary who wasn't a bitch. Plus, it is an English surname, so I think it is weird as a first name.
