So, I was curious as to whether Sophia or Sofia was the preferred spelling in this community, and I ended up making a poll about spelling variants of some of my favorite names. Procrastination, yay! ♥

(The names appearing in the question parameters are the variants that Behind the Name told me were the original, not my personal favorites.)
[Poll #1080686]

Also, I decided recently that I like the name Elisheva. So, first of all, how is this name pronounced? I'm saying it as eh-lih-SHAY-va. Secondly, is it bad for someone with no known Jewish ancestry to use the name Elisheva?

I prefer Hailie.
And Isabella, but I selected Isabel.

Elisheva is possibly ever more gorgeous than Elizabeth, but it does sound very Jewish. Not that it would be bad to use the original version, but I guess people would often be assuming her heritage is Jewish.
I pronounce it ay-lee-SHEH-vah
I also like Elizaveth, after one of my own typos :P

For some reason I've never liked Sophia but I do quite like Sofia. They have very different "vibes" to me.

In the UK Sarah and Sara are pronounced differently. The first syllable of Sarah rhymes with "air" and the first syllable of Sara rhymes with "car".

I prefer Bronwen because I think the "yn" ending is traditionally more masculine - I think of male names like Glyn and Bryn.

I know a girl (Jewish) named Ellysheva she pronounces it something like "ellie-shev-uh" She just does by Elly, and I've only heard it said... probably three times, so I can't remember where the emphasis falls. I don't dislike it, but I think it's confusing to look at.

My hebrew name is Elisheva (Eh-lih-sheh-vah). I like it, even if mostly it is used when my mother is upset with me. (Thus it is hard for me not to hear my middle name as well (Elisheva Shoshanah).

EH-lee-SHEH-vah. I think it's odd to name a child a blatantly Hebrew name if there is no known Jewish ancestry... people will wonder why you didn't just name her Elizabeth.

Wow, I love Elisheva. But then again, I'm a sucker for most Jewish names. You could always make it a middle name, right? =)

Bronwyn is a male name to me - the wyn ending is masculine, vs the wen feminine...

The names I marked as 'other' are just names I really dislike.

I have a soft spot for Kaytlin, if I have a preference because I hate the name all together. It's mainly because my name's Kayt, I guess.
