I have a girl in my grade whose name is Bree, and I really like it!
It's not her full name, it's her middle name (Breanne) but I suppose she doesn't like her first and chooses to go by her middle.

What do you guys think? Can it be a name on its own or should it only be a nickname?

I'd use it as a nickname, just for options. Breanne could be Bree, or Anna, or anything you can derive from them.

I think it sounds like it should be short for something really.

It also reminds me of the cheese, Brie.

That would be Anne.

I can spell only not today.

I know two girls named Bree. It seems like a normal name to me so I've never really thought about it before. But I think I like it, it has a good sound. But it's better as a nickname for something I think.

I don't like it at all, and it's only a nickname for me I'm afraid.

Would Breagh seem more like a "real" name or just a bad "kreativ" spelling? Or do would you all be inclined to say it differently?

I know a girl names Breanna and we call her Bree. I like it. I prefer Brea though.

I lean toward kre8tiv. I think I'd probably say it closer to Bre-a, though.

My name is Aubrey and my parents thought people would call me Bree, if anything, as a nick name.
No one ever has though!

I've only heard of it as nickname for Breanna/Breanne, like in your friend's case. Just out of curiosity, do you happen to know her first name? :)

yeah, I don't know if I'm biased by the sea witch in The Little Mermaid, but it makes me picture this aggressive, controlling, bitter elderly woman :P

I knew a Brie. Not Brieanna, just Brie. I always thought it was a bit odd, but it fit her.

that is true, and they're also few and quite uncommon. I think the only one I like is Ulla (OOL-lah), which is sometimes used in german as a nn for Ursula.

my name is Brianna but all my friends call me Bri. I like both but i think of Bri more as a nickname. Though I had a girl in my class names Bree once, whole name not a nickname, and she loved it but HATED when ppl thought her name was Breanne or Breanna

I think it's a perfectly good stand-alone. It also reminds me of Desperate Housewives, which is a good thing.

I went to HS with a girl named Brea (pronounced Bree), and I always thought it was pretty.

I don't like that name at all. It always reminds me of French cheese (brie (http://www.aftouch-cuisine.com/images/produits/Brie%20de%20Meaux1.jpg")) =\

My friends daughter is named Briana (formally Briieanah, but thankfully mum decided to change it) but had always gone by Brie, since she was tiny.

I love Bree, I very seriously considered a form of that for my daughter, and if I have another girl, i'd consider it again. But I would like it to be a nick name and then the full name be "Bree-in" But I don't know how to spell it to differentiate from Breanne.

I like it, but it does remind me of the cheese, also.

I just found out recently that a coworker of mine, Brian, has a wife Ann, and their daughter's name is Brianne.
