is it just me or would the name Nicki sound odd on an 8 or 10 year old girl? I mean, Nicole wasn't very popular in the 1997-1999 years, was it? seems more like a name that would be on someone my age, give or take a decade.

don't get me wrong, parents can use whatever names they want, and if they want to use a name 10-15 years after it's popular, that's fine and dandy. or something. but I just got an American Girls catalog and there's a special edition "2007" doll, only available this year. the AG dolls are usually supposed to be 8 or 10 years old (I can't remember) which would make this, um, fictional girl born in the years I mentioned above. and her name is Nicki, which just strikes me as odd. it would seem for a doll that's supposedly the epitome of a certain year, they'd have picked a name that would have been more popular 8-10 years ago. like.. Hailey or something.

Good point.
As it is Nicole was in the top mid 20s during those years (where as Hailey was only just into the top 100), but you're right that doesn't really seem to reflect the time.

I'd love to have a job naming dolls. :)

My sister is thirteen and her middle name is Nicole. Not her first but Nicole was still popular at that time. It's just not the most popular.I don't think an eight or nine year old Nicki would be unusual.

American Girl dolls are between 9 and 10. Emily would probably be a better name for a 10 year old now as it was top in 1997.

I've never heard of a Nicki. Nikki, yes, but not Nicki.

I grew up with a Nikki, so I've known an 9-10 year old nicknamed that. But we were also born in the 80s when Nicole was huge. A Nicki/Nikki born in 1997 just sounds funny, for some reason.

You are way overthinking this.

iawtc. Nicki is really not that strange of a name for a little girl to have. I wouldn't bat an eyelash at meeting an 8 yr old Nicki.

That is a little anachronistic, but not all AG meets Historical Standards(tm)... I would've guessed Emily or Madison or MacKenzie or something of that ilk, myself.

I still want pretty much everything they've got.

This isn't necessarily related, but I just wanted to share a Nikki horror story. I have a friend named Nikki (not her nickname, that's her full first name) and she was named after...the Prince song. Her mom kept hearing the song on the radio and really liked the name...you know the song, the one about masturbating to a picture of a girl in a magazine? Yeah.

Yeah.
