pronounce this name:

Michaela

it's the name of an actress i like on a show, and i'm pronouncing it as

'mih-KAY-luh'

but then, the hispanic part of me figures it could also be:

'mee-kuh-EL-la'

so, WDYT? or is there another way to pronounce it i'm not thinking of.   i really like this name now... it's grown on me. and i kinda am ok with either pronunciation. i just wanted y'alls thoughts on it.

One of my best friends has a four month old named Michaela and it's pronounced as you first said. It's the Italian version of Michelle, which is the mother's name.

I have no idea how it would be pronounced in Italy, since they live here in the US and have for many generations.

Your first pronunciation is the only one I've heard used. I think it looks ugly, but sounds pretty.

I say Mih-KAY-la.
Michaela Conlin, who plays Angela in 'Bones' pronounces her name that way too =)

Mih-kay-la

Like the 35 million Michaela, Mikayla, Mikhayla, MaKaelas born in the last 10 years.

It's the female version of Michael. Michael-A.

in italian it's Mee-KEH-lah, but we spell it Michela.
We do have, though, Micaela, which we pronounce Mee-kah-EH-la

oh in anglophone countries my understanding is that it's usually pronounced Mic-ay-lah

Mih-kay-luh or Muh-kay-luh

i am not a fan. there are SO many whacked out spellings (the latest i've seen is Mikialah.

i also dislike it because it's spelled like Michael with an A on the end, but not said like it. that is a little pet peeve of mine with any name (ie: Briana/Brianna), not just this one.

I'd pronounce it Mick-aye-la. Similar to how you pronounced it, but I put the "kuh" sound with the mih, rather than with the ay. Like Michael is emphasized Mike-ell, I pronounce Michaela Mick-aye-la.

U've heard both, and I actually prefer Mee-kuh-EL-la.

Nothing personal, but it really pisses me off that the mispellings of that name have people wondering how to pronounce the ACTUAL PROPER SPELLING.

Mikayla has ruined life.

There's a girl in my art class named this, pronounced mih-KAY-luh. My art teacher couldn't stop calling her MIK-a-la though. (She told her to call her Mickey and now she calls her Mikey.)

Anyway it's always been mih-KAY-luh to me.

Hm, when I saw her name on Bones, I was wondering how to pronounce that myself.
I'd say the first one.

Micaela, which is the Spanish spelling, is pronounced Mih-kuh-ay-luh. Michaela, which is the "English" spelling of the name, is pronounced Mih-kay-luh.
