A previous post got me to thinking about my own name. I have been told one thing or another. I've had people argue with me about the pronunciation of my name!

Angelique

For the sake of ease, I just go with what is probably a very American version. Ann-juh-leek. My grandmother pronounced it as Ahn/Awn-zhoo-leek. My French teacher also pronounced it about the same.

Ideas? Heh. :P

The closest to the french pronounciation would be
Awn-je-LEE-k where the 'je' sound is j like 'zh' plus the 'ea' in 'search' in english

I am French. The pronunciation is : An ( JAY leek, with the liek somewhere between leek and lick. The N in An is almost silent.

It's very beautiful actually.

This is what I would say too with the N being almost silent. In high school French class we picked french names, and this was mine, and that's how it was pronounced in class by my teacher.

+1 on everyone else and your gramma/french teacher.

Don't you hate it when people tell you that you're saying your name wrong? Uergh.

I love Angelique pronounced the French way but am not so fond of Angelique pronounced the American way. Too much emphasis on the ANG.

I like both pronunciations. I think you should just use which ever you prefer/is easier for you, but don't bother correcting people who say it the other way. Does that make sense?
