Ez-mee/Ez-may

I've seen it Esme, Esmé, Esmee, Esmée.. which do you prefer and how would you pronounce them?

I know the accent makes an 'ay' sound, so Es-may would be Esmé.. i'm assuming?
I know an Esmé who uses the pronunctiation Ez-mee.. so did her parents just get her name wrong?

What's your favourite -lia name?

Amelia
Aurelia
Cordelia
Delia
Julia
Lia
Malia
Natalia
Ophelia
Thalia

Anymore i've forgotten?

Natalia and Thalia are beautiful. Amelia and Ophelia aren't bad.

Esmé is darling of course, prn. Ez-mee. And I love Esmée prn. Ez-may.

Oh, it's one way or the other! I get confused too. ;) But I'm sure the extra e makes the name sound different.

You're right. The e with the accent (I really should learn to type it) makes the ay sound.

Esme (with accent) and Esmee (with accent) are pronounced the same way, Ez-may.

Ez-mee isn't a way you'd pronounce a name in French.

Thanks for clearing that up. :D

I would pronounce all of them ez-may except Esmee, which I would pronounce ez-mee. My favourite is Esme. Ha, and yeah, I think her parents did just name her wrong, but who knows?

Hmmm... I like Aurelia, Cordelia and Julia the best but wouldn't use any of them because they're too much like my name (Amelia).

Esmée is the spelling I prefer for a girl. Esmé would be the male version, though I personally don't care for it as a boy name.

Esmee and Esme are the Americanized accentless versions, as is the ez-mee pronunciation. Using ez-mee with Esmé/e, I belive, is just wrong.

I also have Cecilia and Talia (if you consider that different than Thalia) on my list.

I think Ophelia is beautiful. I'm also partial to Cecelia but that isn't listed.

I don't particularly like the name, but I'd go with Esme' with the accent over the one e.

My favorite lia name is Amelia; I like Lia, but I'd use it as a nickname for Amelia, I think.

es-may. I like it Esme. I wouldn't add the accent just because I know it won't show up on most things anyway, so we might as well not bother with it. If I lived in a country that used accents regularly on words, I'd keep it.

I like Delia and Amelia from your list there.

Natalia from that list, but my favourite is Sophia, which you haven't mentioned.
There's also Olivia and Lydia, but I'm not that fond of them.

I'd pronounce all of 'em ez-may, probably coz I've taught a kid called Jesame which is similar with the 'ay' sound

Lia is pretty.

My favourite -lia name is Rozalia (row-zah-lia)
