Oct. 13th, 2007 04:10 pmWhat do you guys think of Wolverine for a boy? :) We both like X-Men, that's our excuse. Hopefully our someday-son will like it too. :D
Also, is it too weird to name a child after a dead pet? My cat was Rosalyn, which is a beautiful name... but she wasn't a relative or anything. :(

Date: 2007-10-13 08:20 pm (UTC)Rosalyn is pretty indeed. I say you can just use it. Just don't call it 'naming a kid after a dead pet.' Call it...giving a kid the same name your pet once had. Which you use again because you loved it (the name and the pet). Sounds a lot better, don't you think? ;)

Date: 2007-10-13 08:21 pm (UTC)Rosalyn is nice. I have a cat named Violet. She's 1 year old and a Siamese. I had a pair of birds once that were named Crystal and Noel. Those could all be names for people.

Date: 2007-10-13 10:57 pm (UTC)though, i know someone who says it like No-elle... if i were to want that pronunciation, i would spell it Noelle, not Noel.

Date: 2007-10-13 09:48 pm (UTC)I made the mistake of using the name Delia on a pet that was killed. Now my husband won't let me consider it as a child's name. My SIL made the same mistake with Fiona....she said if she'd known she was ever going to have kids she'd never named the goat that, because my brother said he'd always tell the kid it was named after a dead goat. I don't think it's weird, but you might want to make your parents or siblings or whomever promise not to tease the child about being named after the cat.

Date: 2007-10-13 09:52 pm (UTC)I read a book a really long time ago, I have no idea what it was called, and the main character was pissed because they found out they were named after a pet (but the pet apparently had saved the mother's life). I wouldn't want to be named after a cat, but I hate cats, so I'm biased.

Date: 2007-10-13 09:59 pm (UTC)I have thought about using the name from some of my pets. I love all of my animals names (Willow "Willie", Lillias "Lilli", Fiona and Lucy) but I don't think I love them enough (the names, not the pets ;-) ) to actually use them on my children. My little sister doesn't plan on having children but she says if she does she'd name her daughter Lilia. I kinda like the idea of naming my son William and calling him Willie because I think the nickname is Willie is simply adorable, but there is that whole penis association thing attached to it, so I wouldn't actually do it, plus William is just TOO popular.

Date: 2007-10-13 10:08 pm (UTC)It's your call, but that is a really bad name.
Imagine when he is a grown up and is trying to get a job, or pass himself off as a professional.......
it will be really hard for him to be taken seriously.
I don't think there is anything wrong with naming a child after a pet.
Rosalyn is a beautiful name.
