[identity profile] isoldereverie.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
We went out for nuggets, and in the play area there was a very cute little girl that was being kind of bratty and blocking the platforms up to the slide. With the intention of modeling nice behavior for my 2 yr old, I leaned down and asked this little girl her name.
A voice from above (Not the little girl herself) answers and says, "Her name is (mumble)-istin." I asked, "Is your name Kristin? Kristin, can you move please so we can climb up to the slide?" The Voice replies with an audible sigh, "NOT KRIStin! WESTIN! Her name is WESTIN." The Voice was Westin's older sister named Parker. They had a baby brother named John.

I can kind of see Parker on a girl thanks to Parker Posey, but Westin? Maybe it was spelled differently...Weston, Westyn, Westan. idk. The girls' names just seemed way to masculine to me, but I wanted to post in here and see what everyone else thinks. Parker's reaction to me calling Westin 'Kristin' makes me think that happens often.

Isn't Westin a chain of hotels? Parker is cute, Westin, no.

I love that the mom needed to be unique with the two girls and then name her son John.

Yeah, I work near the Westin towers in Seattle. That is weird. I heard a mom call her little girl Griffin once, I think.

Parker = profession.

Westin = ridiculous.

John = normal to the edge of boring

The girls' names are masculine-sounding, they obviously wanted a boy in the first place, and gave them those ugly names out of frustration. Then by the time the boy kid finally arrived, they were already resenting him for the long wait and gave him a blah-name for that :P
Yeah, I overwork my mind :P

There's this whole trend of naming girls after dead presidents (Madison, Kennedy, etc). Does this mean the new trend is naming girls after hotel chains? Will we now see Hilton, Sheraton, Hyatt? Haha!

There will be Inn instead of Ann, and Ibis in the place of Iris *lol*

btw, I'm going to friend you if that's ok? I glanced at your blog and it totally made me nostalgic for living in Europe. (I lived in Spain for a few years...) And yay for Italian!

i can't say much about the president thing... i thought about naming my son Kennedy- whether he would have been a girl or not. but, it was my great grandmother's last name, & she HATED her first & middle name, so i wanted to honor her by using her last. lol

I make exceptions for family names - I'm considering naming my child "Stone" if it's a boy, for similar reasons. We've also considered "Poyntz"...

Uh.....no thanks. That's almost as bad as naming a girl James or Michael. I'm surprised that John isn't a girl too.

OT, but my cousin's name is Parker and we always call him Parker Posey.
When he started school the teacher asked his name and that's exactly what he told her.

I actually like Westin. Probably more on a boy but I can see it on a girl.

Ugh for directional names. Easton, Weaston, Southon...whatever. (ok, I made the last one up, but it's BOUND to happen).

Westin doesn't really do it for me, but i definitely see it on a boy more than a girl.

Personally, I like Westin beter on a girl than a boy. As for Parker, I have a female dog named Parker. lol I didn't name her, but it's commonly mistaken for a boy's name.
