I found this today, and am a bit disturbed.

Ann Landers and the original "Dear Abby" are twin sisters, and their real names are: Esther Pauline and Pauline Esther.

Why would parents EVER do this to their children? Just because they're twins does NOT mean it is acceptable. It's like they only liked the two names, and couldn't decide on a middle name for either, so just stuck 'em together and switched them around.

Yeah, I knew that. :)

I don't see any problem with it. They weren't named Esther and Esther, lol. I think it's actually kind of nice, especially for twins.

My grandma and her sister are Jeanette Mavis and Mavis Jeanette. They aren't twins though.

My husband and his middle brother have their own names (though my husband goes by his middle).

The youngest brother of the three, though, doesn't have a "name of his own". His first name is the middle brother's middle name, and his middle name is my husband's first name.

I can't ask why this is without pissing off my mother-in-law, so I never have. I already came close to getting into trouble when I asked her why, if she intended to call my husband by his middle name, she didn't just give him that as a first name.

Seems like their nicknames were Eppy and Popo. I'm sure the internet knows but I can't be bothered to look it up.

I don't like that either. That informs me that people who do that to their children have NO imagination.

Speaking of, I had 2 best friends who were sisters who were two years apart. Their mother had named them:
- Judith Christine
- Christine Judith.

Needless to say, they went by Judy and Christi

I know a lot of kids who's parents did that to them. Its so stupid. Most of the time they're passing down family names though.

Why is her racial origin relevant? Genuinely curious.

It wasn't really... I'm not really sure why I mentioned it. Just when I look back, that's part of what I remember. Sorry!

Haha I remember reading that before and thinking the same thing. I would think it would be another opportunity to use a name you liked!

I know a family who do not have twins that have sons Anthony Michael and Michael Anthony. Couldn't they find different names? Its bad enough the mother has a father, brother and husband with the name Michael that she has to have two sons with the name Michael!

It'd be better to just skip their middle names...

I once knew a set of 3 sisters..
Mary Elizabeth (Mary Beth)
Elizabeth Anne (Lizzy)
Anne Marie (Annie)

um.. not a fan, personally, but I guess I can deal with it for religious reasons...

My sister and I don't have middle names because my parents knew they'd have two kids, only liked two names suitable for girls/women, and didn't want to do the same with us; they joke we would have been Wendy Tessa and Tessa Wendy. Of course, they didn't KNOW when my sister was born that their second child would also be a girl, but there was a risk (later validated, when I was born).
