As I was lamenting over my precious Tiger's loss to VA Tech yesterday, I realized I really like one of the players names:

Cullen

I'm having a terrible time coming up with boys names, so it's a big deal when anything gets my attention. (I hope this kid is a girl, for it's sake). We wouldn't be able to use Calvin as a middle name like we were planning on before..(shame, this was my husbands request to honor his late grandfather. The sentiment is sweet, but I really hate the name). I don't understand why all the names I like begin with C, either. It's not intentional, it just ends up that way. I have a 6 year old Corbin, Charis or Kaida (a C sound) are the top girls names for us right now, and now Cullen. Usually I don't really care about 'sib sets' or how two names go together, but I also don't want to end up with 2 or three kids, all with "C" names, and have someone think it's an intentional trend. IMO, it's kinda tacky when people plan it out like that. Maybe I'm over thinking?

Anyway, thoughts or opinions on Cullen, middle names, and/or a "C" trend?

Heh, I made a post about Cullen a few weeks ago, too. I have a friend by that name. I'm not sure I'd even heard of it before him, but it's gone to my list of favorites.

I wonder what his middle name is...I can't believe I never thought to ask...

The name Cullen has been ruined for me for two reasons.

1.) It's the last name of a really horrible visiting economics professor at my university. I really hate the man and because he doesn't actually teach, it's fallen to me to do it. So, I'm bitter and angry.

2.) It reminds me way too much of the world 'culling' which means, amongst a few less murderous things, to pick out and kill surplus animals. It's been applied to humans in genocides as well to try make the murders less of an issue. It makes those people inferior and on the level of animals.

That said, I prefer 'C' names as well though I don't know if I'll ever use them. When I write I chose a lot of 'C' names and have to go back and convince myself to like other names so that everyone doesn't have similiar sounding names.

I don't mind Calvin as a middle name if you can find the right first name.

And, I don't mind 'C' trends. I suppose, though, it's because I'm used to them. My mom is one of four 'D' names that are in alphabetical order and they all have the middle name Ann except her brother David whose middle name is Alan.

If you can possibly manage, I'd do my best to honor my husband's request, particularly when it comes to honoring a family member. My fiance vehemently refused to use any of the family names I wanted to use as a middle name for our daughter, and while I love the name we settled on, I'm sad she doesn't have a family name in the equation. He's finally realized how much it means to me and has agreed to give me fairly free reign on the middle name for our next child, to honor my mother or father, depending on the gender.

Two kids with names that start with the same letter don't bother me because that could be completely uninetional but more than 2 gets a little cheesy for me.
But if you like another C name don't decide against it just because you already have one C child.
I think it would be nice to go with the middle name your husband wants, since it's for his Grandfather.

I like Cullen better as a boy's name. I always thought sib-sets with 2 kid's having the same first letter were fine. Anymore than that creates the tacky look.

Cullen is alright. neither wondrous nor hideous. ;p have you considered Cullum or Callam? just curious as I like them and they sound similar.

I kwym about feeling trapped into a trend of same letter names and kind of tried to avoid it with my kids. I have more of a problem with the rest of their names sounding too similar (which to me, Corbin and Cullen do because they both start and end with the same sounds). of course, 2 out of 3 of our kids' names end with a similar sound not only to each other but also to our last name so maybe I'm not one to advise on that.

It reminds me of this ridiculous teen vampire romance book...
