[identity profile] literaryfantasy.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

Sorry for the second post in less than forty-eight hours, but it seems that with this baby's impending birth all of the names we decided upon aren't quite to my liking anymore (anyone have that? :P).

Anyway, I was re-reading my list of favourite names because of literary characters, when I came across this one: Alba. I kind of like it, but am unsure. Is Jessica Alba too much of a big deal for me to consider this name?

Post all you want :) I don't know about the Jessica Alba comparison, but I have to say I don't really like it. It's not an attractive sound for me. Plus I think it's the name of a chocolate mix?? I'm not sure.

I love Alba, it reminds me of Isabel Allende and that's always good. It might be a name people won't be able to pronounce right because the vowel is kind of... subtly different.

I'd be curious to hear what middle names you like with it though.

Teresa?

I can't think of anything else, but I'll keep it in my head.

I don't really like Alba, but I love Alma. I think it means "soul". Are there any other names you are considering?

I'd say for now, Alba would be heavily associated with the actress, but she strikes me as more of a fad, not someone with staying star power. I always think of her as a poor man's Scarlett Johannson, and I'm willing to bet within a few years, she won't be such a household name.

I have heard this repeatedly. I have this list of "eventually must read" books a mile long.

Right now, I'm reading a prayer for owen meany...but perhaps after this, I'll check it out.

Thanks!

Are you an English Major, by chance?

it'a on my liar.
it's a john irving book. quite good so far. he wrote "cider house rules" and a few others you may have heard of...

I asked b/c of your name "Literary Fantasy" and that you mention literary references from time to time. It was just a shot in the dark, I guess. I thought maybe you were taking Creative Writing in college or something.

p.s. i like Alba

Love the book and I love the name Alba. It means Dawn/morning in 13th century southern French (Provencal).
