Guilty Pleasures
Sep. 27th, 2007 05:12 pmWhat are names that you would never, ever use, but you still can't bring yourself to cross off the list? Maybe because they sound trashy, or they're a little too trendy, or the meaning is less than desirable, whatever. What are they?
Girls
Snow
Nova
Clover
Tempest
Chelsea
Boys
Slade
I think I have so little in the Boys department because I tend to generally like classic boys' names.

Date: 2007-09-28 01:12 am (UTC)I don't really have guilty pleasures. I have names I would never use because of associations but I don't have any that I'm exactly guilty of.

Date: 2007-09-28 01:20 am (UTC)I would never actually use them, since Angel is a bit pretentious, Angelus is an evil vampire and Drusilla is an insane evil vampire, plus everyone who knows me knows I love Buffy and would therefore know thats where I got them from lol.

Date: 2007-09-28 02:55 pm (UTC)Gwenhwyfar - Too Arthurian legend.
Gwenllian - Most Americans (including my fiance) would never be able to pronounce it.
Hermione - Too Harry Potter.
Igraine - Too Arthurian legend; few would be able to pronounce it.
Isolde - Not exactly a happy ending, eh?
Jerusha - Very old fashioned.
Kylie - Very ZOMG popular! in the late 90s but my Godson is Kyle so it might be a nice middle name.
Mahaut - Too 11th century.
Mair - People would say, "Like the horse?"
Mairi - Possible, but doesn't really go with the last name.
Melisande - Again, not a story that ended especially well.
Rhosyn - Possible as a middle name.
Seren - I actually would strongly consider, but only as a middle name.
Skylar - Trendy. But I like.

Date: 2007-09-30 03:59 pm (UTC)Boudicca -Too Irish, too hard to spell and pronounce.
Gavin -Fiance's name is Kevin, so too close.
Jory -Silly sounding.
Kennedy -The fiance and I are Kayt and Kevin, adding Kennedy is too many K's.
Kells -same thing with Kennedy
Henry -name of abusive ex of sister-in-law. Bastard ruined the name.
Dean -James is the set in stone first name of our first son, so we can't use Dean.
Ianthe -The spelling looks funny, and no one will ever say it right.
Henrietta -same problem as Henry.
Calandra -Too close to Kayt and Kevin, plus sounds really made up.
Maude -Stuffy sounding.
Quinn -Sounds awful with our last name.
Amberly -So bad, but so fun.
Jacinta -I have a niece named Jessica, so it's too close.
