too late to change it?
Sep. 15th, 2007 09:35 pmhey all...my baby girl will be 12 weeks old tomorrow and i've still not warmed up to her name. naming her was a huge ordeal which ended in me locking myself into the bathroom at the hospital. i won't go into details but needless to say, neither of us got our first pick of names. we named our daughter ... scarlett june. now, i love scarlett and was surprised that he okayed that but june is to honor a family member and neither of us are crazy about it.
here's my question...
how many people think it's too late to change the spelling of june to joon? i suggested it in the hospital but he was so over the name that he couldn't process the alternative spelling. now, he and i both wish we had spelled it like that.
we're not real conservative people and walk a little on the wild side. hell, she was almost named michi calypso (mee-chee) so "joon" just goes better with our family than boring old "june".
whaddaya think?

Date: 2007-09-16 01:50 am (UTC)I might sound harsh here, but... she's only 12 weeks old and it's just her middle name. Who cares? Change it if you want.

Date: 2007-09-16 01:51 am (UTC)Do you think you will? Because if there's no chance, then maybe just change it. Middle names aren't that important anyway, and there's no problem with a slightly "strange" one like Joon rather than June.

Date: 2007-09-16 02:12 am (UTC)That said, June is LOVELY. Joon looks like goon and makes me think of a retarded Johnny Depp (yes, I know that was the sister, but that's the main association since I don't even know who played her).
By the way, love Scarlett! We considered it, but out last name is also a color and it made a strange combination.

Date: 2007-09-16 05:07 am (UTC)I often wonder why we actually have to chose the name before we know the person that's in front of us. I know that *I* can't even name a cat without knowing it's personality first. I think that if you feel more comfortable with Scarlett (SUCH a pretty name) Joon, then that should be her name. If it fits her and your family better, then why not?
It is just her middle name so even the a little off the wall spelling isn't too silly.

Date: 2007-09-16 06:09 am (UTC)somedays i really like it, too. it's just so stressful to name a child and my bf has never really been onboard about the name and very vocal about it. maybe it would sink in if he'd just shut the hell up!

Date: 2007-09-16 06:13 am (UTC)it definately is retro, i haven't seen it used much lately. my boyfriend thinks it's an "old lady" name.

Date: 2007-09-16 08:34 am (UTC)At only 12 weeks old, it's most likely not too late to change...however, why not change it to a name you actually like, rather than just changing the spelling of a name you don't like? No matter how you spell it, it's still the same name and will be pronounced the same.

Date: 2007-09-16 10:22 am (UTC)I think you could still change the spelling. It isn't going to affect her when she is this young.

Date: 2007-09-16 03:52 pm (UTC)I changed my name when I was 13 years old. My entire family changed our names for a reason. Our birth certificates could not be changed. Therefore, if you change her name to "Joon", the birth certificate may not be able to be changed.

Date: 2007-09-16 03:57 pm (UTC)"June" is a month of the year, and that's how the name came to be popular. People wanted to name their kids after that lovely month.
It's true that "Joon" is also very Korean. I worked in Korea for over a year. I met up with many Joons. They were all men.

Date: 2007-09-16 09:01 pm (UTC)It's a very pretty name. I much prefer June, it's charming in a retro sort of way and has the fresher association of the month itself.
My own middle name has a variant spelling (Clair), and it's been way more trouble than it's worth. 90% of people will still spell it June, and it's essentially the same name anyway, so can't the point.

Date: 2007-09-17 12:28 am (UTC)after posting this and seeing the replies last night, i'm starting to think that june will stick. i've never been one to care much what others think about my choices but this board has helped and brought up points i hadn't thought of.

Neither actually, I use it as a surname, as an online pen name (in honour of Harper Lee). I adore it as first name too.
That's cool, it does help to get those extra insights.

Date: 2007-09-18 08:39 pm (UTC)June or Joon are just fine, and since they are all pronounced the same - it's not much of a difference.
My baby's father and I are fighting over names as well, so I understand the stress!
