Hi people! For some reasons (it's a long and painful story, so i'll just skip it), it's almost sure that i'm going to adopt my grandma's sister's cat. Her name is "Reina", wich means "queen" in Spanish. I'm not quiet sure i like the name because it's pretty common here to name a pet in that way, but in the other hand it was my beloved aunt who named her and it's a Japanese name too (all my other pets have Japanese names).

So, what do you think about the name? Do you like it? Must i keep her name?

Yeah, i know, i didn't like it neither. Changing the name of an adult pet (she's about 5 years old) might not be a problem, because i adopted adult pets before and they did ok with the names, it's more the sentimental charge in the name the "problem".

I think it is a pretty name, but that you don't HAVE to keep it. Unless it was part of a contract when you agreed to adopt the cat, then you can go with what YOU feel good about.

There are multiple ways to write it in Japanese, but the way i like it the most means "for the sake of the spirit" 霊為 .

I think you are right, i don't have to keep it if i don't like it... i was thinking of "Akina" for my next cat, so... maybe i'll go for it. Thanks! ^_^

I'd go ahead and leave it. If she's a grown cat, she knows her name by now. And it's not something embarrassing to call out the back door when you want her to come in at night.

How old is the cat?

older than a year or two? you probably shouldnt change it

She's about 5 years old, i can't remember exactly!
