I work as a cashier, so when I work I have to check customer's credit cards, and thus have read some interesting, unusual, and awful names. I started keeping a list, and here it is so far:

Corny (I am told that this used to be a nickname for Cornelius, which is a decent name, but why a person would want to go by Corny, I don't know!)

Morning Star (her first name, not first and middle, fyi)

Dimple (so, so, awful...)

Lezly (ouch, spelling)

And today I was ringing up a lady who had her little daughter with her and as she was giving me the money, the girl made a break for the gumball machines outside, and the mom called after her, "Visa, get back here! Visa!" She said the name a few times, so I know that I didn't just mishear it. She named her daughter Visa. WTYT?

And actually Christianne was with some friends at the time and they pronouced it "Kristi-anne" which surprised me, because I thought it was kr8tyve spelling for Kristen too.

I had to really force myself not to look weirded out when I heard the name Visa... and Vulcan, too, actually. Because either way, its the Roman god that was notoriously ugly and lived in a volcano, or the parents liked Star Trek too much.
