I adore Winter. It's my top girls name. I love it because of the book, not the season.

When I think of the name Denise I think of a 50 year old woman. I can't see a little girl with that name.

I HATE the name Denise. It is such an unattractive name; I think of a middle-aged woman who weighs about four-hundred pounds and sews her own Christmas tree ornaments (specific, huh? Ahah).

I have a guilty pleasure for word names, but I wouldn't use the obvious ones.

Neve- Portugeuse for "snow"
Neva- Similar to above.
Ruby
West
Slade
Sydney/Sidney (though mostly Sidney)
Roman
Lily (though too common for my tastes)

Oh, no, I didn't mean it applied to all Denises. In fact, I sit beside a Denise in my French Class, and she is far from what I described.

It's just the image that I get from it, so don't take it as an insult or anything. I've actually been known to start liking names I hated based on people that bore them.

I think that saying season names are trashy is just ridiculous, I wish people wouldn't say that! I get the opposite "feel" from them. A lot of essence, even if not a whole lot of depth. I like Autumn a lot, and I like Winter only as a middle name.

But anyhow, I also love:

Scarlett
Robin
Raven (for the record, I'd never give two children "bird" names)
Dakota
Sierra
Willow
Jade
Virginia
Alexandria

Actually, I doubt I'd use the majority of these, and some (like Jade) I like only as a middle name. But I think these are nice.

Soleil Moon Frye (Punky Brewster) has a daughter named Poet Sienna. Remember her friend in the show, that rich blond girl? I can't remember her name. She was always talking about a cousin named Millicent. I love that name too.

My daughter's name is Winter and I think it's the farthest thing from trashy (I'm obviously biased though). I actually think seasonal names are pretty classic, and fortunately rarer than the more common boring names.
