Elvis?

My husband is dead set on using the name Elvis for a son. ELVIS. I know he's the King and all, but...Elvis? Luckily, we've pretty much decided on the name for any first son we might have, but if we end up with a second boy...it's going to be a battle. I've indulged him by "putting it on the list," but there is pretty much no way I would actually consider it for a real child.

So what are any names that your partners are set on that you would never give in to?

That's too funny! My guy is set on Miliardo but I think it sounds like something very bad in spanish LOL I told him if we have twins boys he can use the name, but otherwise, it's a negative. I figure the chances of us having twin boys is low so it will work out just fine! ;) If he doesn't give up, then it can always be used as a middle name. :)

I once read about a couple in a magazine and their daughter was called Elvis. She was 3 back then so I thought it was kinda cute...but growing up, I don't think she'll be very happy with her name.

My boyfriend was going to be named Elvis Ernest until his father stepped in. Maybe Elvis would make a decent middle name? I second the idea of using Aaron, or maybe even Presley as a tribute.

I love the name William, but the boyfriend said he would call the kid Billy, and I can't handle that. He loves the name Kenneth as a first name. My issue with it is that there are already three Kenneths in his family, so it's going to be a middle name (James Kenneth). He also wants to use Gary or Patricia. They're his granparents' names. I hate the name Gary. Patricia is also his idiot sister's name, not that I like Patricia as a name anyways.

My boyfriend comes up with the worst names. Then again, his last name is a common food. So, it's hilarious to come up with terrible names to go with it. Name our kids after all different sorts of meals. He comes up with different terrible noun names that no kid would survive, too, but I cannot think of any of them for anything right now.

Thor Vildehargen.

Some Viking BS we jokingly made up with our first son, but I know if I even HINTED at seriously letting him use it on this baby he'd do it. haha

I had a student named Thor (twin was Sally). It was so cute when he filled out his first day of school questionnaire.

Who were you named after:
The god of war. (Just cute coming from a blonde little 3rd grader.)

Darrell was pretty set on REX if the kid is a boy. I don't want to name my son after a dinosaur. At first I did the whole name the 2nd kid Rex if it's a boy thing. But I've since decided that I really can't deal with that.
I've talked him into using it as a nickname if we ever have a boy. You know, like a nickname he uses that will be between the two of them. I'm hopeful it'll work out that way.
He's still stuck on Samantha if it's a girl. I'm not deadset against it, but it's not my favorite. I'll probably give in as long as he lets me pick the middle name.

My fiance suggested names such as Persephone, Artemis, Athena, Cassiopeia (which I may've spelled incorrectly), Dmitri and more I can't remember. I shot them all down. He knows better than to try to be "dead set" on a name that I can't stand, and vice versa. I love the name Noah but he hates it, s I know it will never happen.

My friend's brother is Dmitri, I never thought it was weird.. is it!?
I actually love Athena & Persephone, but everyone I know who isn't familiar with Greek myths goes 'Purse eh phone?' wtf?
ohhh dearrr. I love my baby too much to omit that on her!

Date: 2007-09-04 02:34 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fireyirishangel.livejournal.com
No, it's not weird! I went to school with a couple of Dmitris! But I associate it strongly with Greek heritage, of which my fiance and I have none, so I'd feel odd using the name. Much like I'd feel odd using Giovanni, a name I strongly associate with Italian heritage.

We had a friend who saw Persephone written in a baby name book and pronounced it "purse-eee-phone". That sealed the deal that there was no way on this earth I'd use the name. Not that there was a shot in hell before ;)

my husband has actually suggested cadence. i like names like georgia and lily, but he isn't up for it. i'd also like to name her elliot, but he won't have it. like someone said before me, he's great at shooting down my names and terrible at coming up with any that are worth a damn.

I would shoot for Aaron or Presley instead of Elvis.

In a way Elvis would be cute, but I also suggest Aaron instead!

My boyfriend is dead set on William, which I hate, and he hates almost all the names I suggest!
