A co-worker just recently had a niece born, and the name was Brodie Elizabeth. It's kind of cute, I guess. I don't really mind unisex names in general, but the way her sister used them... it makes me want to gag. Here are the names of her sister's six other children:

Jocelyn Charles (boy) -- Not a fan at all! I know, it's masculine in French... but ew.
Abby Edward (boy) -- again, not a fan. Not a nickname for Abbott or Abraham, just Abby.
Hunter Grace (girl) -- Why? When I think of a hunter, I am not thinking of grace at all.
Hilary Martin (boy) -- Words cannot express how much I hate this name.
Ann Christopher (boy) -- It ruins the name Ann for me. Forever.
Randy Addison (girl) -- I would never use "Randy/Randi" on a girl. Ever. And this just ruins me ever wanting to use Addison. Ever.

So, from what I can pick up, the mother (1) likes unisex names, tends to give (2) her boys names that are more commonly used on girls and tends to (3) give her girls names that are more commonly used on boys. I feel for these children.

I mean, Brodie Elizabeth is at least SOMEWHAT cute, and is spelled the feminine way.

i know a girl Randi... she's the most disgusting, loud mouth girl i've EVER met in my life. that pretty much ruined that name for me for girls- not that i'd particularly like giving it to a girl, but still lol.

Yeah, I'm really not into this at all. I mean, I understand that Jocelyn and Hilary are names that were originally masculine, but they aren't, at all, anymore, and everyone is going to assume they're girls. They'll get sick of it, real quick. The middle names are really nice, though, for all of her kids. And Abby wouldn't be horrible as a nickname for Abbott or Abraham. By itself, it sucks, though.

And the girl names? What the fuck? It's not even like those were ORIGINALLY girl names, you know? With the boys... Okay, I get it, and they were once used on boys, so whatever, you can make the case that it works. But Randy? Hunter? Brodie? What the hell?

That isn't a cute trend. At all.

Every one of those names is wretched.
I think the best of those names is Hunter Grace, but I still hate it. Those names don't go together at all. The boy's names are worse than the girls names, and Ann is the worst by far.
I feel very very sorry for those children

I've never heard of the name Ann as being unisex. Those poor little fucks. They're going to get the kicked shit out of them daily.

The only one I like is Jocelyn Charles. They could call him Joss for short. Hilary Martin is okay, but I wouldn't use it. The rest are pretty awful, Brodie Elizabeth, Hunter Grace, and Randy Addison especially.

Brodie reminds me of the word grody, so I don't like that name.

wow...a BOY named Ann?!? I feel so bad for him. I feel really bad for Abby too...it MIGHT be ok if it were short for Abraham or something...but wow...I hope this woman doesn't have another boy and name him something like Jessica!

I immediately thought of that song "Boy Named Sue." That poor little boy named Ann... it isn't even short for Anders or Andrew or anything.

I would definitely change it, if I were him. How awful. And a girl named Hunter? Ugh. And a boy named Abby?

Worst sibset ever.

Crazy. Brodie is the lucky one!

I say those sibs are going to rise up one day and hurt someone (maybe good ol' mom?)

Wow. That is just mean. I like quite a few unisex names (I have one) but this is just mean. Thise poor children are going to struggle with thier names and thier identities for their whole lives. I hate Brodie as a name on anyone - but I especially hate it on a girl. Randy and Hunter are okay, but Jocelyn, Abby, Hilary and Ann? Are you kidding me? It is just mean.

When I see Jocelyn, I still think of a male first. :-\

I understand that to some people it is a boys name but to the majority of people it isn't. I just feel for the poor kid who is going to be called a girl his whole life.

I grew up being called a boy my whole life and it sucks.

It's true, Jocelyn will probably be teased, unless he lives somewhere French.

Unisex names are fine, but I do not like that she used 'boy' names on girls and 'girl' names for boys. It's really confusing. I really dislike Ann..I've never heard that for a male and I feel kinda bad for that boy. And Hunter Grace just doesn't work.

I want to cry for Ann Christopher. Hopefully all these kids will just go by their middle names. I know I would if my name were Robert Elizabeth instead of Kristina. lol

I hate the, both the boys and the girls, especially Brodie. Brodie is such a masculine sounding name, and it just looks gross to me with the "ie".

Why why why ... Ann??? FOR A BOY!?!?!

Randy is okay for a girl, I think. I've seen that a few times.

I'm with you. Ann? This woman must have gender orientation issues of her own.

I have friends named Brodie, but I prefer it for a boy, spelled Brody.

Seriously. These names are just...gag.

::sad::

I understand (though do not like) unisex names however she's not really using unisex. She's giving the boys girl names and the girls boy names!

Although the girls are lucky - Randy, Brodie and Hunter aren't terrible and are more unisex then their poor brothers. There isn't much redemption in Ann, Hiliary or Abby.

I do like Joss as a nick name for Jocelyn though... But it's mostly because Joss Whedon = <3

I wonder how old the kids are and if they as older kids/teens/adults chose to use their middle name instead.
