quick thought -

the name Deirdre, I grew up with a cousin with that name and it was pronounced der-druh (well, you could kind of hear the i, but its hard to write out the pronunciation of it here), i've also however heard it say dear-druh and known a girl named Deedra said dee-druh (i can't stand this name), and my mother teaches at the same school as a woman named Deirdre only it is said day-druh.
what are your thoughts on these names and the various pronunciations?

personally, i can only stand Deirdre said like der-druh or dear-druh.

my friend was Deidre pronounced Dee-dra.

to me, though, it usually goes like this:
Deedra- Dee-duh
Deidre- Dee-dree (hate that pronunciation though) or Day-druh
Deidra- Dee-duh or Day-druh
Deirdre- Dear-druh or Dear-dree (hate this p., too)
Deirdra- Dear-druh

Personally, i pronounce it deer-dree. What? I was brought up watching Coronation Street, and that's how everyone pronounces Deirdre Hunt/Langton/Rachid/Barlow's name. Will totally always associate this name with her.

I pronounce Deirdre like Dear-druh. When I see the name Deidre somewhere, I'm always like 'hey, there's an 'r' missing!' =P

the name Deirdre (you cousin) - is a traditional Irish name, and is pronounced "deer-dra". those other spellings are just "trendy" or "kree8ive" or another country trying to make the name "fit"....

and i don't like any other spelling. lol but that's just me.

oh! i wasn't tryin to insinuate you didn't know. i was just saying it b/c i don't understand why someone would take a name from another country that speaks english and just say it oddly or spell it sooo differently. irish names are some of the most beautiful i think *but then again, i'm biased since i'm part irish and it seems i can't seem to break the pattern of dating full/half irish guys ha ha ha.
