Cody

My fiance both like the name Cody for a boy. We were discussing it, and in my opinion it sounds a lot more like a nickname than an actual name, and certainly sounds better on a child than an adult. However, I can't think of anything that it could potentially be a nickname for.

Any ideas?

Dakota? Personally I really dislike the name. To me, it screams 90's mid-west wannabe. To each their own, I guess :)

I can only come up with far-fetched ideas like Marco and Alcott. Difficult one! Have you tried babynamesworld.com?

Makes me think of the film Agent Cody Banks. No idea in that if it mentions he has a longer name.

I do quite like the name though!

A kid I knew growing up was named Dakota, and everyone called him Cody. That's the only thing I can think of.

Nicodemus? Rocco? Jakodi? Draco?

Can't really think of anything to be honest

Cody would be a really cute lil kid name, possibly still being cute in the teens to the early twenties age. After that, I cant imagine a grown man being called cody.... So basically, I just reworded what you said haha...

No ideas tho, sowwy. I DO like Dakota tho, for a girl anyways....

Dakota is a group of people, not a name.

Why not give him a grown up adult first name and call him by his middle name? It's not that unusual, then when he's older if he wants to still go by Cody he can, but if he wants an older name to fall back on he has that too.

and the state or two was named after the tribe that lived there beforehand.

I never used to be a fan of it either, but my sister named her son Christopher Carter. And since he was born, we all preferred to call him Carter, so that's what he goes by. When he grows up he can fall back on Christopher if he wants, or keep the Carter.

I really don't think Cody is a nickname. My cousins son is name Kody. I like it!

My boyfriend's nephew is named Cody and when I was talking to his sister-in-law about my child's name (having a few variations of his choice when he's older), she wished that she would have named him something where he'd have a choice to use something else as a nickname. I forget his middle name but it was something "more adult" (I think maybe John, that's his dad's name).

So if you want to go for Cody, I'd say go for it. He might like it, it might fit him, and/or choose a middle name that's a little more grown up.
