When that was required reading I though Harper Lee was a guy. When I found out she was a she (heh) I thought it was a gutsy choice for her parents. It's growing on me though.
It wasn't her parents choice. Her name was Nelle Harper, Harper being a family surname. She chose to use Harper because it sounded more masculine to help her get published.
I really dislike Harper, but I guess it could be worse... I just can't get past the fact that Harper sounds silly to me. Plus, it reminds me of Stephen Harper. :-\
I'm from Alabama, home of "Nail Harpuh" as it is pronounced 'round here. I like it, I like both...but of course the first thing I think of is Harper Lee or Harpo productions...not sure about the latter...it just happens.
