Help me narrow it down
Aug. 14th, 2007 01:28 pmI have come to the conclusion that my list is too long and I think I should narrow it down. The problem is that I am having a hard time doing that.
So I would like your help
I know this list is long but if you could let me know what you think of these names and which you would eliminate I would really appreciate it.
Also I just want to say thanks for all the name advice since I feel like I post here a lot lol....and also I do not plan on having kids for many years....so try...if you can...to take the trendy factor out of some of these names.
Thanks!

Adam - good
Austin - immediately think of Austin Powers and then Texas. Of course you might like both of these things.
Ben - good
Braden - whenever, I see this name I think of the word "braiding," which isn't the worst word that could come to mind when thinking of a name, but still...
Brody - surname
Caleb - ok
Carter - surname
Christian (nn Chris...maybe) - not so keen on the full name, but love the nickname. Probably not a good name if you happen to be a raving atheist.
Colin - think this name is better suited to middled-aged men and/or dogs.
David - ok
Eamon - I think this could be all right.
Ethan - My gut reaction is "no," but I can't think of a good enough reason why.
Evan - I know it's a boy's name, but I know a girl called this, and I just can't get past that. Plus, it sounds like the opposite of odd.
Gavin - I have an unexplainable hatred for this name. I think it's something to do with how it sounds.
Jake - good
Jesse - sounds girly, just because it's so close to the feminine form, Jessica, which is so much more common.
Landen - bad, probably a surname too.
Liam - ok
Logan - seems sort futuristic to me for some reason; would expect to (and have) see it on a character in a sci-fi programme.
Lucas (nn Luke) - like Luke, but Lucas has always sounded a bit creepy to me, plus it reminds me of Lucazade.
Maddox - the "mad" really stands out, so my brain goes to "crazy person".
Mason - n. worker in stone; if anything a surname.
Matthew (nn Matt) - good
Max - good
Nathan (nn Nate..maybe) - good
Noah - good
Oliver - good
Owen - good
Rory - ROAR!
Ryan - good
Sean - ok
Tighe - looked this up to see if it was a real name, and the closest I could find was Tighearnach, meaning lordly. I can't really make a judgement, because I haven't a clue how it's pronounced. Could be something to take into consideration.
Tristan - trist => tryst in my head. I am weird.
Zachary (nn Zach) - good
Girls:
Abigail (nn Abbie) - good
Adriana - ok
Alana - prefer Alanis
Alena - nope
Alexa - nope
Amelia - good
Anneliese - ok
Arlana - "arl" just doesn't some good to me at the front of a name.
Asia - not a fan of place names as names personally.
Audrey - seems old ladyish in a bad way to me. I say "in a bad way," because I personally like a lot of names that are considered old ladyish.
Brooke - has nice imagery it has to be said, but not my taste.
Brynn - brine!
Camryn - looks very Kree8ive to me.
Carissa - ok
Cassandra (nn Cassie) - ok
Cheyenne - nope, unless you have a connection in your family background. Even them I don't think it's a nice-sounding name.
Claire - ok
Eliana (nn Elie) - nope, looks like (maybe it is?) a combination of two names - Ellie and Ana - and that's rarely good.
Emily - good
Faith - again not a good idea for rabid atheists, but I don't know anything about you, so have no idea if this applies or not.
Fiona - good
Giselle - I really like this name too, but the thing that would hold me is the "giz" sound at the beginning. WHY does this have to be slang for manly excretions?!
Gwyneth (nn Gwen) - good (very, in fact)
Isobel (nn Izzie) - good
Jordana - nope
Kasha - think it looks better with a "c".
Keeva - ok
Kira - better spelt Keira.
Leah - ok
Leila - ok
Malaya - nope
Maleah - nope
Mia - good
Molly - only works well for babies and children up to about twelve.
Nadia - good
Natalie - good
Natasha - good
Neela - nope
Nieva - nope
Niamh - good
Noelle - good
Olivia - good
Paige - ok, I suppose.
Paris - bad I'm afraid, and you can probably guess why I'd say that.
Peyton - ton = town/estate in Anglo Saxon, so sounds like it should be a place name. Also, I really think this sounds too harsh to be a name, let alone a girl's name.
Rhiannon - nope
Scarlett - nope
Zoe - good
I feel mean now, I really hope I haven't been too harsh, have I?

Date: 2007-08-15 12:23 am (UTC)and btw with the Christian + Faith thing...I'm Catholic so it works haha
Tighe is kind of a different spelling of the Irish name Tadhg. My mom was going to name me this if I was a boy.
