I was thinking Tamsin could be used as a nickname for Thomasin, if not a proper name itself. I don't like Tommie or Tami for a nickname, but Tamsin I like.
I admit it's somewhat oldfashioned and uncommon, but I don't mind, as long as it's not too hard to spell.
Old fashioned + uncommon + no negative associations (like Mildred or Gertrude) = a really good, solid name, IMO. Add that it has a cute nickname that fits in with classmates along with a more formal version, and you've hit gold. Go for it!
