how do you pronounce: Xavier? more of "Zay-vee-er" or "X-zay-vee-er"?

I can't believe people pronounced it as "ex-avier"... it doesn't start with E! It always surprises me so much to hear it pronounced that way, as I don't think anyone does here in Australia that i know of.
