[identity profile] slayerkate.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

For some reason, my local paper and my parents' local paper don't do much when it comes to posting baby names. Anyway, I saw this and thought it was cute.

                                  Serenity McKenna

WDYT?

Serenity is this century's Patience and Chastity. I do secretly like Makenna, though.

McKenna sounds pretty but looks ugly. Serenity's pretty, too, but makes me think of Sailor Moon. It doesn't really have any good nicknames, either.

Serenity bladder control products come to mind. Ick, not exactly a good thing to share a namesake with your child.

That was my first thought as well.

I don't like Serenity as a name at all. McKenna isn't bad, just not my taste.

Serenity's a virtue name (with no history) and what if the kid isn't very serene? It also sounds like a romance novel and/or stripper.

McKenna... well, to start with, "Mc" means "son of".

Also, it's way too close to rhyming for my taste.

I could come up with more things wrong with it, but those are a good start.

Ewww, on both counts. I highly dislike words as names, and Serenity is one of the worse ones. I guess you could use the nickname Sera, which wouldn't be bad, but it's just...ugh. And McKenna is way too trendy, especially because of the spelling. Makenna would be better.

Am I the only one that automatically things Firefly when I see Serenity?

I don't hate the name but I'd always secretly wonder if I didn't do it just because of fandom. So, I'd never use it.

Yay!!!! I love it so much!!! It might be geek parents who named their kid Serenity (and I'm assuming it's a girl) because it's from the Firefly series by Joss Whedon (who did Buffy the Vampire Slayer). There's such an awesome theme song that goes with it about Serenity. "You can't take the sky from me. You can't take Serenity..." Wow. I'm so incredibly psyched that someone named their kid that and if they did it because of the Firefly series, I'd be even more geeked. The movie that came out after the series is called Serenity.

McKenna reminds me of the movie Somewhere in Time with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. I like it actually.

The two names together are very pretty and I really really like it.
