[identity profile] erwin-rules-yay.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Hi, I'm 16 years old. My aunt is 27 weeks pregnant with a little girl!! She already has a 9 month old son, Jackson. The reason I am posting on here is because she is having a major struggle with names. She just can't seem to find a name she really loves or that goes with Jackson. These are some names she has in mind: Riley, Morgan, Campbell, and Peyton. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!(Middle names also welcome) :)

Riley, Morgan, Campbell, and Peyton: NO. Why can't people stick to giving a girl name to a girl, and a boy name to a boy?

I can handle Morgan or Riley on a girl. Peyton makes me think of big beefy football players. Campbell makes me think of the little fat boy on a Campbell's soup label.

Other semi-unisex or not frilly girl names:

Adele
Ariel
Audrey
Avery
Catherine/Katherine
Blake
Deirdre
Esme (EZ-may)
Harper
Jane
Kelsey
Linden
Manon
Meriel
Meredith
Noa (this name also appears in the bible as a girls name -- it is not the same as Noah)
Rio
Sadie
Tamsin

I really like Jane. I think Jane and Jack, or Janie and Jackson are classic.

If she gives both her kids last name names it is going to sound stupid and trendy, unless she is one of the Providence Jacksons and her husband's mother was one of the Nashville Campbells. You know?

If she likes Riley, why not Lee? If she likes Campbell, why not Belle?

I'm sorry, I'm just SO OVER the last name thing.

Well, there's Morgana, that's a girls name, but then I am the kind of person to give Dayle as a middle name to my daughter.
Carol, Kim, and Jocelyn, Jody, are a few examples that were male names and women have over the course of time taken them over. I know two men by the name Kim and one male by the name of Jody, but he goes by Jude.
It's like the name Gabriel, and Daniel, both male names but girls have made it into girl names, like Gabrielle, and Danielle. Saddly, I hate those names as I think of them as male names.

I know of only girls called Riley (Rylee) and Morgan. I know ONE girl I went to college with called Peyton and seriously all the guys were madly in love with her.

Yes, I am unfortunately aware that people are using unisex names lately. Just because other people are doing it doesn't mean I have to like it. I know little girls AND boys with those names. There are so few good boys names as it is; look what happened to Ashley, Kelly, and Stacy.

But see, at least those are female equivalents of the boy names, instead of the boy name itself. There's Jack and Jackie, Robert and Roberta, Albert and Alberta, Harry and Harriet, Henry and Henrietta.

I think it's weird that when I have kids, all of their friends will be Jack, Jacob, David, Robert, William, Charlie, Grayson (gag me), Brayden, and Reese and half of those will be girls.

I like the name Reese for a girl over a boy. I have a friend who has twins boy/girl and she named her girl Reese and the other Ben. BTW Jackie is a male name. Just to let you know.

I meant Jackie as a nickname for Jacqueline & its multiple spellings.

I love RyLee Danielle for a girl.
I also like these:
Audrey Elizabeth
Maddison or Madeline Elise
Sierra Alyssa

I'm not a fan of people naming thier kids things that "go together" - to me, it's all about individuality.

I like Riley for a girl, but I would spell it Rylee or Rylie. I like Rylee Anne. Some feminin forms of Riley are: Rylene, Rylise, Rylena or Rilynn.

While Riley, Morgan and Peyton aren't my style, if she likes them, she should certainly flow with the style she has in mind. How about Bailey for a little girl? I always thought that was a sweet name. I'm not sure of the origin of Piper and I've only seen it used on girls, but that's another girl's name that isn't too frilly. Jordan is another cute unisex name, if it isn't too cutesy with Jackson; I myself am loving the idea of Jackson and Piper the more I hear it. I think it just fits. Good luck. :-)

Madeline is my daughter's name (the baby in the icon is Maddie) I gave her middle name a very old fashioned name, "Dororthy"

I think Esme is a very girly name. I love it.. but it's only pronounced 'Ez-May' if there's and accent on the 'e' As in Esmé, otherwise it's just Ez-Mee'...which i do prefer...anyway thats all!

Esme is the male form. Esmee is the female form. I listed it here as a unisex name since I see the Esme used for girls in the US.

As far as the pronunciation, ez-may is the only way I've personally heard it, but people don't always agree on those either. (Maybe like the traditionally French pronunciation of Genevieve vs the Americanized. Or the way Aislinn is being used as ACE-lynn.)

It is a good name.

I like it either way, but personally I've known girl Morgans.
