22yr old girl i recently met: Amber-Leigh
her sisters are: Britni and Cheyenne (i'm unsure of their ages)

another girl i recently met: Joni (p. Johnny, not short for anything)
her sisters are: Sam (Samantha), Frankie (Francesca, i think), & Charlie (Charlotte)

wdyt of naming your daughter a girly name, then calling them a more common boys name, as their nickname?

I think that's the only acceptable way of using a boy's name on a girl.

It might just be me, but Britni, Amber-Leigh, and Cheyenne all make me think of porn star names.

Well, Amber by it's self as a first name doesn't make me think porn star, but having adding the -Leigh in the first name does. Then there's the group of the sister's names as a whole:P

My cousins name is Samantha and we call her Sam or Sammie. I love it.

Frankie doesnt do it for me for a girl..however I think Charlie for a girl is great...but I could never use it since I have an uncle named Charlie.

I love the girly name / boy nickname family trend thing. I usually hate name trends for a family but I think thats cute. I would never do it myself though.

I don't DISLIKE the idea of using more masculine names as nicknames (ex: Charlie for Charlotte; Joey for Josephine), but I tend to prefer more feminine names. I like really "girly" names like Amelia and Louisa, although I do really like Joey and Jordan for girls.

i thing the nick name "frankie" is adorable.
what i like most about feminime names with masculine nn's is that if the girl turns out to be very girly she choose to go by her full name and if she's more on the tomboy side she can decide to go by her nik name. options are good.

There used to be a tv show called Sisters that used this same idea. I don't remember all of their names, but I remember Teddy, Georgie, and Frankie were some of the nicknames.

I love that trend and I think all of those are really cute except:
1 - Joni looks like it should either be "Joanie" or a pet name for Johnna and I don't like either of those, and 2 - I don't think I care for an entire sibset in that theme.

I have an aunt Joni pronounced Joanie. though she says she did get a lot of "johnny" growing up. she hated that.

I'm not really a fan, but if you do like boys names for girls it is a good way to do it, because if she really hates her name she can revert back to her full 'girly' name.

I've always liked Henrietta/Henry/Henri for a girl. It worked for Henrietta Leavitt, about the coolest lady ever...

My sister-in-law-to-be's sister is called Joni but pronounced Jo-nee rather than Johnny.
