When my brother was growing up, he had a male friend named Sage. Now I work at a bank and I get to see lots of little kids coming in with their parents, and there is an adorable little girl named Sage that comes in with her mother every so often. I looked it up, and its number 689 for boys and number 417 for girls on the ssa charts for 2006 (I didn't even think it would be in the top 1000, since I've only met 2 in my life!) Anyway, I've decided I really like this name for both, but what do you think: masculine or feminine? As a name, it means: herb (obviously, haha) or prophet.

I like it better on a girl, I think. I don't like the name much at all, but I see it as more feminine.

I see it as a feminine name, but I don't really like it, at least not as a first name

I'm not fond of Sage either way, but I definitely see it as a girl's name rather than for a boy.

I know of both a boy and a girl with the first name Sage. The boy is Sage Robert and the girl is Sage Elizabeth.

I could go either way with that name. It seems like a feminine male name and a masculine female name to me.

The reference to the herb makes it feminine to me, because of the witchcraft traditions (in a loose sense), and because generally herbs and flowers are considered "pretty", and, thus, feminine. I've also only heard it for girls.

I don't like Sage.. I think of an ugly green color whenever I hear of a person named Sage. It seems masculine to me.

I knew a girl named Audrey Sage. I love the name Sage, at any rate.

My friend's son is named Sage, so I always think of it as a boy's name.

It's not bad, but it makes me think of Gage from Pet Sematery.

It's awkward on the tongue. Doesn't exactly ROLL... lovely to look at and great meaning, but it's just no fun to say, at all.

Well I like it for me, and I'm a girl; but really it seems totally unisex and that's part of the charm.
Incidentally I know of five other Sages, and only one of them is girl (but I knew her before the boys).
