[identity profile] heatherejc.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
So, a couple months ago, I posted several names that my husband and I were considering for our baby boy. (That post is here - http://community.livejournal.com/baby_names/1374765.html)

Your opinions helped us narrow it down to 4, and now we are down to 2 favorites (one is his fav, and the other is mine) and have chosen a middle name that complements both of our family histories. So, now I ask...

[Poll #1031306]

(Note, my husband is a photography grad student, so Ansel being the name of a famous photographer isn't a bad thing to us. We aren't naming the kid after the photographer - we just both kind of like the name. It's more of a coincidence that it's a famous photographer.)

Thanks!

I really like both names, but the repeating S in Ansel Davis Close just seems to interrupt the flow of the name to me. Really, though, both names are great :)

I had the same feeling, although it's less true if the surname is pronounced clohz (like "close the door") rather than clohs ("so close and yet so far away").

I agree with the S thing. though I at first read Davis as David and prefer it that way.

Ansel, unfortunately, looks like a cross between "ass" and "anal" to me.

Purely basing my opinion on the names themselves, I prefer Alden, though I think Ansel is cute, made even cuter that your husband is a photo grad student.

My husband and I are divided too. He likes Alden and I like Ansel. Sorry I couldn't help more! heh

My vote depends on how you pronounce Alden. Al as in ball, or al as in aligator? I think the long a (ball) sounds nicer than the other.... Either way, actually, I think Ansel gets my vote!

Alden has the infamous -en. Reminds me too much of Aiden..Caden..Jaden etc.

I like Ansel better because the alliteration in AlDen Davis bothers me. Ansel also makes me think of piers brushed by the waves (don't ask why :P). It does, though, make me wanna put an H in front of it to read it Hansel, but that's just silliness of the mind.

Just don't call his sister Greta/Gretchen :P

All jokes aside, I prefer it a lot to Alden, which sounds serious and uptight. And it makes me think of Waldon, which makes me think of a geeky type.
Ansel sounds like a cool name, and being related to your hubby's passion is added value ;)

Please excuse my weirdness today, I'm feeling off.

p.s. I forgot to ask: do you pronounce Ansel like An-sel or Ain-sel?
I'm thinking the first one.

I went with Alden. If the kid has a lisp Ansel Davis Close would be hell trying to pronounce. =]

Definitely Ansel! Ansel is a little more... piquant with his dignity, whereas Alden sounds like he would be expected to Darcy it up continuously.

Like both, though I do greatly prefer Ansel.
