Jul. 31st, 2007 02:45 pmElora and Alora?
One of my dear friends is having a baby girl and plans on using this name, spelled Elora. I absolutely ADORE the name in either form, but my husband can not be convinced, unfortunately. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else pronounces the two differently?
Elora for me is 'Ell-ora', whereas I say Alora like 'Ah-lora'.
Is it just me? Which do you prefer? Also, what comes to mind when you hear Nora?
I am so not getting any work done.

Date: 2007-07-31 07:28 pm (UTC)Elora is the name the ADORABLE little redhead baby in the movie Willow. I've always liked the name.
When I think of the name Nora I think of a mousy, nondescript woman.

Date: 2007-07-31 07:46 pm (UTC)I don't really like either name, but Elora is okay, I guess.
I LOVE Nora. The first thing that comes to mind when I hear it is Nora Jones, and that's not a bad connotation at all. What about using it as a nickname for Eleanor?

And I don't love the name Nora, personally, probably as Norie was a nickname people tried to give me over the years. And, being named Eleanor, Nora sounds kind of incomplete to me.

Nora makes me think of the girl character in Step Up :P and is also the name of a girl in one of my short stories. It is known for sounding old-fashioned and up-tight, but it might be cute.

Date: 2007-08-01 03:31 am (UTC)When I think of Nora I think of the really nasty looking redhead that married my ex-fiance. I'm not a fan. LOL

Alora is definitely Ah-laura to me.
Nora= old lady in my head. or nora roberts

Date: 2007-08-01 06:08 am (UTC)When I hear Nora, I think of two things: a) Norah Jones, or b) my brain goes to Dora, and then to Nymphadora, and then to Tonks, and then to Harry Potter in general. :P It's extremely odd. XD But I do love the name Nora, whether spelled 'Norah' or 'Nora'.
