Elora and Alora?

One of my dear friends is having a baby girl and plans on using this name, spelled Elora. I absolutely ADORE the name in either form, but my husband can not be convinced, unfortunately. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else pronounces the two differently?

Elora for me is 'Ell-ora', whereas I say Alora like 'Ah-lora'.

Is it just me? Which do you prefer? Also, what comes to mind when you hear Nora?

I am so not getting any work done.

Alora. They sound pretty similar to me unless you make a big deal over the pronunciation.
I just prefer A names to any other.

To me, Elora is 'ell-OR-uh', and Alora is 'ah-LOR-uh'.

Nora is my favourite name, but spelt 'Norah'.

Elora is soooooo much better than Nora in my opinion.

Elora is the name the ADORABLE little redhead baby in the movie Willow. I've always liked the name.

When I think of the name Nora I think of a mousy, nondescript woman.

I guess I sort of see a difference between the pronunciations, but it's barely noticeable.

I don't really like either name, but Elora is okay, I guess.

I LOVE Nora. The first thing that comes to mind when I hear it is Nora Jones, and that's not a bad connotation at all. What about using it as a nickname for Eleanor?

I'd pronounce them both uh-LOR-uh, but in my head I'd imagine that I were pronouncing the initial vowel slightly differently. Ha.

I think they're more or less equal, but I kind of think it looks nicer with an A.

And I don't love the name Nora, personally, probably as Norie was a nickname people tried to give me over the years. And, being named Eleanor, Nora sounds kind of incomplete to me.

I say Elora, Alora is too close to the italian word 'allora', meaning 'so, then' and english-speaking pronounce it exactly like that.

I also make the same distinction in pronounciation as you.

Nora makes me think of the girl character in Step Up :P and is also the name of a girl in one of my short stories. It is known for sounding old-fashioned and up-tight, but it might be cute.

I love that name a lot. I say it "Ah-lora" though and I like that spelling (Alora) best.

Nora is pretty. I think of Norah Jones. I prefer it as a nickname to Eleanor or Eleanora.

Elora is linked to the movie Willow in my head. Too fantasy/made-up sounding.

I like Alora. But it looks a little like "NOW" in Spanish.. Ahora.

When I think of Nora I think of the really nasty looking redhead that married my ex-fiance. I'm not a fan. LOL

I pronounce it eh-lora and ah-lora. Love them and the alternative spelling of Alaura (but I prefer the other spelling). I also like Melora.

That was Alaura, I think. Alaura Danon.

I'm hearing a lot more people in my area or from my area originally naming their baby girls Elora, after a town nearby. I've pondered it myself but don't think i love it that much.

I've heard EE-laura and EL-laura, for that one so it's really your choice.

Alora is definitely Ah-laura to me.

Nora= old lady in my head. or nora roberts

Not just you. :) I hear 'em that way too.

When I hear Nora, I think of two things: a) Norah Jones, or b) my brain goes to Dora, and then to Nymphadora, and then to Tonks, and then to Harry Potter in general. :P It's extremely odd. XD But I do love the name Nora, whether spelled 'Norah' or 'Nora'.

I actually love Elaura and Alaura. Out of the two you're asking about I think I like Alora better (But I like them both, I'm thinking as a nn I'd rather have an Ally than an Elly). I think I'd pronounce them the same.
