Jul. 13th, 2007 11:42 amOne thing I haven't seen posted in this community is Whats your Name?
So I'm curious. What is your name? What does it mean and how do you feel about it? And also, if you feel comfertable answering, if you could change it what would it be?

Date: 2007-07-13 02:51 pm (UTC)lindsay is a unisex, english name meaning: "from the lake settlement island"
rebecca is a female, hebrew name meaning: "snare"
(according to babynames.com)
i have a love/hate relationship with my name. i like rebecca, but lindsay has always been...weird for me. in elementary school i hated it. but then the last few years i've been like, "eh, whatever." and now i'm starting to actually like it. it could definitely be worse.
i don't think i'd change my name. i can't think of one that would fit me better. i love the names eliza, louisa, and juliet/julia/julianna, but i don't think they'd work for me.

Date: 2007-07-13 02:52 pm (UTC)My name is Bailey Hannah Louise. Two middle names in honor of my grandmothers. I like the combo.
Bailey was stolen by my dad from WKRP in Cinncinatti, he loved the character Bailey Quarters. So 80s but i really do love it. I'm not one of the Jessicas, Ashleys, Amandas or Sarahs which is nice. I only know one other Bailee and the spelling is annoying to me.
It apparently means Bailiff. Or "the courtyard itself" which are both strange.

Date: 2007-07-13 02:59 pm (UTC)Tamsin, my mum read a book when she was younger and there was a character with that name. Colleen is after my aunt and Campbell (I think) is my great grandmother's maiden name.
I generally go by Tam, and the only thing I would change about my name is the meaning: twin. How boring.
But my whole name, and I find this quite hilarious, means Twin Girl Crooked Mouth. :)

Date: 2007-07-13 03:09 pm (UTC)Amanda means lovable and Lynn means Ruddy-complected.
My mom didn't have a name for me when I was born. She named me after the nurse that took really good care of her, and the Lynn was the middle name of her brother and my father's sister.
I dont mind my name...just one problem. Say the two names together, fast. It sounds like an instrument. lol

Date: 2007-07-13 03:13 pm (UTC)Lindsey means "From The Lake Settlement Island" as said above.
Renee' means "Reborn."
When I was younger, I hated my name. I always wanted to change my name to Taran. I have no clue where Taran came from, I never knew anyone with the name and have no clue where I heard it. Over the years it's really grown on me, though. I think that my name fits me really well. I don't think I would change it.

Date: 2007-07-13 03:19 pm (UTC)I like it, its in a dictionary, it's shorter, and uhh, it has nothing to do with my British/Italian heritage, but whatever.
I wouldn't change it, but if I had to, it would be Adrienne Mae.

Date: 2007-07-13 03:23 pm (UTC)Louisa comes from Ludwig which comes from the Germanic word for "warrior king". So I guess Louisa means "warrior queen/princess".
Jane comes from John and means "God is gracious".
I really like my name because it's unique but not cree8tyve.

Date: 2007-07-13 03:39 pm (UTC)My mum picked the name Alison because she liked it. Sandra is after my grandmother.
I like my name a lot. I think Alison is nice, and it's not too common, but not weird. I love my middle name because I love my grandma! :D

Date: 2007-07-13 03:44 pm (UTC)Adrienne Frances.
love the first name, not too common. hated it as a child, though. anything with an R was awkward for me to say.
my middle name is also my grama's first name. I don't like it as a first name but as a middle name I don't mind it.

Date: 2007-07-13 04:25 pm (UTC)LEE-uh
Angelica after my aunt. Later, when my aunt changed, my parents somewhat wished they had stuck with their other middle name option of Andromeda. I like both of them name-wise.

Date: 2007-07-13 04:44 pm (UTC)I wouldn't change my name.
Louise is my MN because my dad's middle name is Louis. so he just put an E on it and used it.
It means "good listener"

Date: 2007-07-13 05:00 pm (UTC)Leah means "weary", and various other things. It comes from the Old Testament.
Tess comes from the name Theresa, which I've found means "harvester".
I believe my parents just liked the name Leah. It's pronounced Lee-uh, by the way. And Tess was my paternal grandmother's name. Her full name was Theresa, but she went almost exclusively by Tess.
I used to dislike my name, but I've come to accept it now. I used to want to make Tess my first name.

Date: 2007-07-13 05:06 pm (UTC)I absolutely love my name
Kate is greek and means pure
Elizabeth is hebrew and means God is my oath. I'm not religious, but this is my nana's middle name (who died when I was really young, and I never really knew her) and it's also mums middle name, so it means a lot to me.
I'd never change my name.

Date: 2007-07-13 05:08 pm (UTC)My parents got Lauren from a soap they used to watch, there was a nice doctor character and he had a baby girl called Lauren!
Annabel is also my Mum's middle name.
Lauren means "wears a crown of laurels"
Annabel means "beautiful Anna"
I like it. I used to want to be called louise when I was younger. And I also used to be very embaressed about my middle name because it seemed so posh. But I like it all now. Lauren is becoming quite popular. But when I was young I met only one other. Then at high school I met one more. And at college there were loads! It suits me because it is not too girly and neither am I.
If I were to change it I'd go for something more unusual. Probably Ivy or Fern. But I'm happy with my name, and so I'll save my favourite names for my kids.

Date: 2007-07-13 05:25 pm (UTC)Nancy because my Dad liked it.. i'm guessing because the first lady was Nancy Reagan at the time I was born.
Angelina is one of my grandma's name.
Although some may think Nancy is an old lady name.. I'm 20 years old and I love it! It's just me and I wouldn't change it.
also my name means "graceful messenger" if you get the meanings of my first and middle name.
on another note:
the babies in my family.. Isabella Rose.. I've always loved the name Isabella (got it from Days of our lives lol) Rose is after my mom. Her whole name means "beautiful rose" Then there's baby Kyle.. which means "handsome" so yeah.. they're fitting because they're both beautiful... and I'm pretty sure when they're older they won't want to change them.. well, maybe Isabella because there are millions of Isabella's now lol.. She was named before the craze of the name.
sorry this is so long haha

Date: 2007-07-13 05:39 pm (UTC)i have almost always gone exclusively by becky, though.
i love the name rebecca and also becky. they suit me quite well, really. renee has always been a take or leave for me...i used to think it sounded too much like 'mayonnaise'...and there was a girl i didnt like so much with the same name so i kind of didnt claim it.
i cant think of any names that i would change mine to only because that means being someone different to me...for the sake of the game, tho...i'd choose seraphine grace.
becky*

Date: 2007-07-13 06:07 pm (UTC)Melissa is Greek, and it means "honey bee".
Laura is also Greek, and it means "victory" (taken from the Laurel wreaths given to champions during the Olympic games, etc.).
I have alot of Greek in me, so my parents liked the idea of my name being Greek. Also, my mother's mother's initials were MLH before she married, so my parents wanted to give me her initials. My brother was given my dad's dad's initials. :o)
While I like that idea, I really dislike my name. It's so common and plain. But oh well. I have vowed that my children will NOT have common names. Not that I want to saddle them with something outrageous...I would just prefer that they have names that aren't so popular and bland. I'm honestly not sure what I would change my name to if I were to change it. There are countless names that I love...but I'm not sure they'd work on me.

Date: 2007-07-13 06:45 pm (UTC)I think, if I'm not mistaken, Raisa means Rose and is Hebrew. (I checked babynames.com, lol.)
I used to hate my name, a lot. But I'm growing to like it more and more, the older I get. I wouldn't change it now.

Date: 2007-07-13 06:59 pm (UTC)I have no idea what Shanna means because I have seen so many different answers to that question. Some say its a variant of Shannon and others don't ..so im not 100% sure
Marie is a family name
I absolutely love my name. I have never met another Shanna and I love that. I am not crazy about the constant mispronunciation of it (I say it as Shan-ah and people says Shawn-ah or Shane-uh all the time)
I think my middle name is ok. I like that its a family name I just wish it wasn't soooooo common. I'm 21 and all of my friends except 2 have the middle name Marie (one is Brooke and the other is Ann)
And I would not change my name ever
