Ok...so I have red hair and have had it for my entire life. It is very prominent in my family and theres a good chance that whenever I have kids...they may have red hair.

So the question is...whether or not my kids are redheads...I always will be.

Would it be a good or a bad idea to name my future daughter Scarlett?

What do you think.

Fellow red here, and I say no way! With all the taunting and teasing my sis and I endured, the last thing we would have wanted was a name that called MORE attention to something that the rest of the kids obviously thought was a weird, ugly, eyesore. :(

depends what the father's hair color is.i believe red hair isn't dominant.if the hair is red,i'd say no.if not red, perhaps.but remember there's a Scarlett o'hara(gone with the wind) and miss.scarlett from clue.

Well, I don't see a problem with it. But that's just me. I love both red hair and the name Scarlett. :)

Well you might not know as a newborn what colour her hair will be. I don't see anything wrong with it but I can understand the dilemma - my general principle is that there are plenty of names to choose from so if I can already see teasing potential in one, I might as well use another instead. But I personally don't see anything funny about a red-haired child called Scarlett.. nor any reason to tease people with red hair anyway.

Probably a bad idea. It would make her sound like she's got a stripper's stage name, in my opinion. :-\

I don't think it's such a bad idea.
I know this girl called Ruby, and she dyed her hair red. No-one ever said anything about it and I'm only seeing the connection now =) (besides, Scarlett is a great name).

I don't see any connection between red hair and the name Scarlett, the hair color is actually copper while the name refers to a blood-red shade.

I can understand the OP's dilemma, but I kind of agree here. If you really wanted to screw with the kid, Penny would probably be much worse.

I think as a middle name it wouldn't be so bad.
I'm a redhead too, and I've never been teased for it, but I think with a name like Scarlett, things would be crazy.

The baby would only be redheaded if red hair runs in the father's family, too. He could be a redhead or it could just be lurking, recessive, in his genes, but if there's no documented redheads the past many generations, you'd probably not have a redheaded child (but no guarantees that it's not just lurking extra secretly!).

Either way, I don't associate the name Scarlett with the color as the color is spelled differently. Crazy visual brain o' mine...

I dont think you should name your kid Scarlett if she's a redhead. Im a redhead myself, and when I was in elementary school I used to always get teased for it even though my hair's not even that red; it's reddish-brownish
