Anena and Mattieu

Seen this one on a woman on TV:

Anena

like??
I think is strange and sounds like anemia the iron deficincy.

Also I was at some family gathering and there was a little Mattieu. Thats french Matthew. Genius O_o not. The mother kept yelling "Maa-t-eww" "Maa-t-eww" I hated it! Its like so nasal and "Achooooooo" sounding. O god.

It's actually spelled Mathieu :)

and it might have been Annina, the italian diminuitive for Anna.

That is a butchering of the French, especially with the pronunciation as described. I knew a French Mathieu growing up, and it's pronounced something like "ma-TY*" wherein the * means a sound like a German รถ.... basically, you put your mouth in the shape you'd need to say an O, then try to say "eh".

I have seen the spelling "Matthieu" as well, but "Mathieu" is more common.

Mathieu is one thing, but Mattieu is another entirely. And my fiance is Matthew, so I think someone running around going "Maaaaaat-eeew' would *really really* bug me! Poor kid.

A friend of mine is called Mathieu. If you actually pronounce it the French way, it doesn't sound that bad.
