Scarlett
What does everyone think of this name? I'm really starting to like it.
I don't like any nicknames for it though (Lettie or Scar), just Scarlett on it's own.

We're getting a child with this name coming up to school in september, so i'm sure she'll make or break the name for me depending on how nice she is :P.
Speaking of that, don't you hate how you can love a name and then meet someone you're not fond of with that name, which then puts u off it completely.

Honestly, I think of The Scarlett Letter, and also of my fish that died when I was nine.

I hate that too, but even worse when you love a name and someone points out a flaw in it. Like, my friend liked the name Cilla, but I told her that it sounds like cilia, and I also liked the name Amelia, only to find out it's a birth defect as well as a name.

See, I point them out too, and I can see the logic in doing so: it saves you regret if you actually do name the child that (however, we are fourteen, so the chances of names being set in stone is very unlikely).

I adore it. Katherine Scarlett is my choice, I like "Katie Scarlett" just like in GWTW.

I love this name, personally.

Yes, names can have a bad association. For example, I like the name Elizabeth, mostly as a middle name for some of my favorite first names. It was my grandmother's middle name (She was born in Sweden and her name was Maj-Britt Elizabeth) And I sort of wanted to use it as a mn after her, but this idea is completely out the window as my fiance's ex wife's first name is Elizabeth, and the daughter they had together has Elizabeth as a middle name, So there goes that. However, when my grandma moved here she started going by May. Easier to pronounce and more american, I guess. So I still have May as a mn option, although we already have names picked if we ever do have a baby (Victoria Jade, Owen Alexander)
Even though I am thrilled about those names, I still get bitter twinges inside about not being able to use Elizabeth. I get mad because the name is completely ruined for me. Just hearing it makes me think of his ex, and not my grandma, which I hate. So yeah, I know exactly what you mean.

I'm sure you've heard this a thousand times before, but now it's my turn to say it.

One of your kids NEEDS to be doctor.

My mom almost named me Scarlett! (She was a BIG gone with the wind fan ;) I really like it, but apparently my dad vetoed it at the last minute.

Same as lava_cake, I prefer Scarlet. Probably the Tori Amos influence, in my case.

Don't stress over a nickname. She will either pick her own or you will find a nickname that doesn't use Scarlett in the first place. Many people's nicknames don't use the first name.

The "Scar" part just sounds so harsh to me, and its meaning so unpleasant, that I haven't been able to get past it. :(

Scarlet or Juliet were my faves if I were having a girl.
