WDYT of the name Severine (for a girl)? Pronounced Sev-reen.

I'd never heard of it before until I was browsing a tennis website and saw a French tennis player with that name.

I think it's rather cute.

I have a German cousin with a son by that name (spelled Severin but pronounced Sev-er-een).

I don't like it because the italian version Severina is typical of the elderly (like great-grannies) and comes from the adjective "severo/severa" which in italian means "strict".

I like it. It's different. Do you know if it's orignally a french name? I'm trying to name my half-french baby girl.

Thanks for the link. My hubby and I were actually starting to fall for that name since I read it after you mentioned it. I'm just turned off by the meaning! I'll have to keep searching!

OH that is now my new favorite name. I like Sev-er-een, though.
