[identity profile] sevensevenfour.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I've been a member of the community for a while and finally decided it was time to make a post.  I'll post my list of favorite names later on because my lists are currently uneven (6 boys and 5 girls) and it's bothering me.  Today, I come with the gift of names from southeast Texas.  Seems everyone here is obsessed with punctuation.  These are names from the list of kids born in one area hospital over three months that I found interesting (AKA - weird) and/or had never heard of.  I find I have a rather liberal policy on names, as well, but these go beyond me.

Le'Marque                                       Ananjay
Elyna                                            Theressal
Jasiryian                                        J'Deah
Ty'rell                                            Kei'Mon
Dontayvia                                     Quarmaine
De'Yanni                                      Joyrenel
Jarael                                           Demaria (and Demari)
Kenry                                            A'Mylie
Ty'ana                                           Rayce
Aurion                                           Atorian
Jamari                                          Ke'Ana
Dan'Ati                                         Callerian
Camora                                       Re'Sheandre
Ardumn                                        D'Andre
Aubreyon                                     Taveon
Kalby                                            Maaricio
Audric                                           Yovany
Jayven                                          Sabelle
Dakarai                                        Sa'Riya
Elihu                                             Terrika
Rondell                                        RaMyah
Xavion                                          Candido
Ausitn (typo, I hope)                   Yoselen
Janiya                                           Kamora
Ca'Myra                                        Makenzi'

The name that I saw that really shocked, though, me was the name "A".  The more interesting part is that the site also gives the first initial of the last name, and it's M.  So, on the website it only says A M.

I will never understand the need to write names like this!
Surely Ke'Ana would be pronounced the same as Keana. Which looks far nicer.
Is this just the new trend in kre8ivness?

"Ausitn (typo, I hope)"

It is a bad, bad state of affairs when we CAN'T TELL if it's a typo or not. *hd*

Makenzi' is just... weird and pointless (that is, more so than the other random apostrophes). Names like this remind me of Stargate. Teal'c, Rya'c, Bra'tac, would all look at home in that list... :p

At least little A M won't have to think of a new name if he wants to be a DJ. I think my fave here is Kenry. Henry is SO last week, but Kenry on the other hand...

It's hard to tell which are the boys names and which are the girls. I see many rich therapists in the future when this generation of children end up on their couches struggling with "wth were my parent's thinking".

My uncle's name was GW (G as a first name, W as a middle name). He was named after his father, Guy Wesley.

I'm imagining a confused second grader attempting to fill in their name on a standardized test. "There's no 'apostrophe' bubble!"

I'm also picturing a kindergarten-aged Re'Sheandre trying to learn how to write her name. It's only one character more than my name (if you don't count the comma), but I remember thinking my name (Stephanie) was ridiculously long when I was trying to learn to write it. Signing it is still annoying, and usually ends up "St," or, if I'm feeling generous, "Ste." Since I have to sign my name on lots of paperwork a million times a day, I definitely wouldn't have the patience to start, stop, apostrophize (uh...that a word?), then start over with another capital letter.

I also wonder if Makenzi' will bother with the apostrophe when writing her name on schoolwork. This led me to picture her future gravestone. Hooh, boy...

Very interesting finds, thanks for sharing.

I feel like I'm reading the character list of a fantasy novel. =D I like fantasy!

Aurion is going to stick with me, I think
