[identity profile] sayga.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
My sister, [livejournal.com profile] lemurchaser, has the privilege of naming a puppy (I'm posting for her because I can make polls). She would like some opinions on names and even other suggestions.

Please vote for all the names you like and comment to suggest new ones. Also, please comment with names you don't like, and WHY (what do you think of when you hear that name?).

She would like to AVOID all names that make people think of big tough dogs, or names of bad guys in movies, books, etc. And anything with a negative/violent connotation. THANKS!

[Poll #999779]

EDIT: The name "Fide" should read "Fido"

I like Remington for pittie puppies for some reason.

I like the name too, but I'm trying to avoid names of guns, alcohol, criminals, violence, etc, I really want people to hear the name and think trustworthy dog.

oh, you know what, i totally didn't even realize what Remington actually IS. After working at an animal shelter for so long, i just see names rather that "things"

my pits name is Grr, but that's just short for Booger :P

i like Ansel, because it makes me think of Ansel Adams, the photographer, and his photos are always very peaceful and moving.

i don't like
Tate because i don't know why or
Nelson, because it reminds me of a wrestling move.

I vote for Nelson or Kipling.

Ansel reminds me of Ainsley which reminds me of Anus...

Oh, Beacon is also reallly adorable.

That puppy is just to adorable for words!!!!

He is so incredibly cute, sometimes I feel like he has to be fake.

I love the name Beacon, it has such a great feeling to it. For some reason feel like it should be the name of a Labrador. I kind of wish he looked like a Beacon.

I dont really think he looks like a Beacon , but thats probably becuase you have pointed it out. haha

I bet hes a bazillion times cuter in person (if that's possible) Only children and animals are capable of looking like such cuties!

He is definately a unique pup. I really like Angus and Argus, but I'm starting to lean away from them because my dog as a kid was Gus, and I'm not sure I can call another dog that.

How do people feel about "Banyan" as a name?

I just thought of it while eating dinner and I love Banyan trees. Its a giant tree that puts down a lot of roots, roots from everywhere. I spent a fun day swinging on Banyan tree roots as they were growing from the upper branches to the ground.

Thoughts, first impressions, comments?

Unfortunately it makes me think of the O'Banion (sp?) gang of badguys from the movie Oscar...:-/

I totally thought Orion. I don't really like people's names on pets though, so the majority of the others were ruled out for me.

He's sooooo cute!

On a side note, I cannot stand when people see a pit and instantly want to call it something that "sounds badass." Grr. (I posted here a few weeks ago with a "help me name this pit bull" and a handful were suggesting just what you're trying to avoid.)

Yeah, it's one of those things that drives me crazy. It makes the dog look bad, which doesn't help the breed get accepted. I came up with some really cute tough-ish names, but refuse to name him that, just out of principle. My other pitbull is named Gracie, can't get any sweeter than that.

My landlord named his pitbull 'G'..
Just G.

*sigh* I called him to Gee-whiz. :)

I'm having sorta kinda similar naming difficulties with my Great Dane puppy (picking him up this weekend). Every name is either Zeus, Jupiter, Thor, Killer, Giant... or something "cute" and "ironic" to make fun of the size.

Sigh.
