a few names

These aren't necessarily names that are at the top of my list or would even use, but I like them and haven't heard them mentioned before. Just curious what everyone thought and how frequently you hear them.

Anabrit - pronounced like it looks, the one I know is Norwegian
Misha - "MEE-shuh" Russian
Mila - "MEE-luh" Slavic, but I think the one I know is Italian

I love the way Misha sounds.
Its the only reason I would ever agree to naming my son Michael, so I could call him Micha.

That sounds like a conflict of nationality to me, and I don't really like nicknames or pet names that are the same amount of syllables as the original name.

Yeah, because Misha is a pet name for Mikhail which is the German and Russian (and I dont know what else) version of Michael, so they just don't sound like they match up culturally-speaking to me.

Michael is also used in Germany, just pronounced likr Mikhail.
I've known/known of a few Michaels hailing from Germany. My son would never be Mie-kul.

I've only heard of Anabrit as two seperate names: Anna-Britt. I quite like it, but not enough to name my child that.
I don't like Mila, but Misha is ok =)

I don't especially like Misha. I knew a somewhat annoying girl named that. I've also heard of Misha used as a male, and it always brings to mind a story Daria wrote on "Daria" about a femme fetale secret agent who wiped out Commies (one of whom was named Misha).

Mila reminds me of Mila Jovavich. I don't think I've actually seen her in anything but hair coloring commercials, but something about her always annoyed me.

Anabrit is interesting and pretty, though.

I love Misha. but it does make me think of that book with a penguin called Misha in.
Mila i quite like, but it seems like it could be short for something else?
(Isn't milla jovovich spelt with two l's?)

I like Misha, but it reminds me too much of Mischa, which I don't like. I would like Mila if it was pronounced MY-la. Anabrit reminds me of Norbit, for some reason, which is a movie that never appealed to me.

I really like Anabrit, but I would hate it if people called my child "Brit" for short. (Reminds me of Britney Spears.)

Not a big fan of Misha, but as a ballet dancer I can only think of Mikhail Baryshnikov when I hear the name. Not a bad reference, but it would be like naming my kid Kobe Bryant if I liked basketball.

LOVE Mila. I nannied for a little girl named Mila and she was the cutest thing ever. When I say the name I feel like I am singing a little song. :)

Haha I'm also a ballet dancer, but I like the name Misha completely on its own and for a girl. Like Mischa Barton, I guess.
