It's biblical. She was the woman raised from the dead by Peter.

So it IS a real name lol.

I had an old aunt once-removed named Dorcas. Very, very old. And foreign.

In one of Robert Heinlein's books, there's a woman named Dorcas. I don't remember quite which book though... might have been 'Stranger in a Strange Land.' Anyway, she's a secretary to Jubal Harshaw and she's supposedly rather beautiful. However, those were written in the 50s and 60s, I think...

dorcas was the full figured brunette, and ended up married to Stinky, an astronaught who brought Smith to earth, lol.

Ah, yes, I remember. It's been a long time since I read any of Heinlein's work. ((Except that new one, 'Variable Star,' but that was Spider Robinson as much as Heinlein...)) Anyway, not to get off topic, I was just pointing out that it is name that was used in some time period... Although I'll say I'm not too fond of it.

Ah, man, you ruined it for me! Although I had a feeling one of them ended up with Stinky.

Why is this so funny? Dorcas is an actual name. It's biblical.

Dorcas sounds a lot like dork, which makes it a kind of awful name, I think.

Dorcas is probably one of my least favorite names in the history of names. And I'm fairly picky

Not only is it a terrible name but I was shocked when I first realised it is a FEMALE name!

My fiance knows someone called Dorcas. Apparently it is the greek version of the name Tabitha?
