I'm just wondering what you all think of the name Lachlan? I'm pretty neutral to it, I have no preference either way... but it's a really common guys name here in Australia, and I haven't seen it on this community much at all so I thought i'd throw it out there

I have a good friend named Lachlan, a cousin and both my brothers have friends with the name...so i see what you mean about it being common!
I don't dislike it, but i doubt i would ever use it.

Interesting :) the person who commented previously comes from Australia too and has heard it heaps... maybe if not many people in america know the name that explains why it's hardly ever mentioned here

My godson is a Scottish Lachlan (pronounced LACH-like-loch-with-an-a, not LOCK). I like it but it's a lot less common over here in the UK.

Hmm I think we pronounce the Lach part the same way as we pronounce "loch ness" ... are you saying it is pronounced like lack, or luck, or something else?

Ok, do you say loch with the Scottish 'breathy' ch or with a K - in other words, does it sound exactly like lock or not? If not, then that's the sound in Lachlan too. But it's with the a of cat, not an o sound like lock.

Ah sorry, I understand now. No we don't tend to use the "ch" sound here, although I know what it is meant to sound like. And yeah we do say it with an O sound like lock, I'm not sure why.

Hmm thinking the name sounds pretty cool in a scottish accent :)

I've never heard it before (I'm American, too, so no surprise). I don't like it. It would remind me of Sarah McLachlan, and I can't stand her music.

i know what you mean... i know heaps of lachlans and no one in other countries can pronounce it! i think it's a great name (one of my best friends is named lachlan and we call him lachy for short) but i don't think i'd use it myself
