I like silly names

I know I just posted, but this seemed crucial, and by "crucial" I of course mean "indulge the hedonistbot."

I'm currently doing data entry for a government contracting company, so I'm encountering a few names that strike me as silly or odd or even pretty, although I haven't seen any pretty ones today. Today's are especially good, considering I've only been at work for a little over an hour:

Renne Smoot (I'm not sure if that's Ren or Ren-ay)
Anne Pugh
Linda B. Tribby
S. Chism
Dana- "Dana" is the name of a man, in this case, which is odd, because I've only ever seen it as a girl's name, either as Dana or a nickname for Jardena.

Also the name Ivory is spelled Ivery for one woman.

Any thoughts?

Edit: I've gotten rid of some unnecessary information about some people listed here

I went to school with a boy named Dana for a few years. It's Scandinavian, and just means 'Dane'.

Come to think of it, I went to school with quite a few kids with good ethnic Scandinavian names. One boy was named Arvid.

Ha-ha, I'm from Finland and Scandinavian names seem so-not-ethnic to me. :D

Dana is actually just as common on guys as it is on girls, although I think in recent years that's changed.

I actually like Dana better on a guy than a girl.
I don't like the name much to begin with though.
Dana White is the president of the UFC and a guy.

hmmm...you think her classmates will call her Dick? I know girls who go by Ricky, but they are Erica/Erika's

There's a male character called Dana in a 1980s film called Moving Violations played by Bill Murray's brother John. That's the only male Dana I ever knew of.

my roommate works for the help desk at SSA and she comes across a lot of ridiculous names.
the most recent that she messaged me with was

Pena Colatta seriously. the woman even identified herself as miss colatta.. and erika asked her first name because she has to record every call and the woman was like Pena. and erika jsut repeated back, so that's pena colatta. awesome. and then the woman hung up.

When I hear Dana, I think A) Dana Carvey, the comedian (male) or B) Dana Scully, from "The X-Files" (female). So it goes either way in my mind. In any case, I never liked that name.

I think it's unacceptable that you are posting people's last names here.

[identity profile] fullofgrace40.livejournal.com 2007-05-31 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
The last names are still listed in the post. I'm not sure where you live, if you are from the USA or not, but there is a privacy act called HIPPA. I understand that researching names is part of your job, but I personally think that you have crossed the line by listing the last names since you got them while doing your job.

It's first and last names with no other identifying information... doesn't seem like much of an issue to me. After all, people use these names in their daily lives, it's not like they're private.

Yes I know HIPPA protects medical patients. I work in the health care field. It's just my opinion and I think it's wrong that you are listing last names. I guess we can agree to disagree.
