I hate Piper. Can you imagine a 30-year-old woman named Piper? Dr. Piper ______? Same goes for Salem.

I actually know some older Pipers, and it works fine, its not one of those names that is really childish when you hear it on a grown person, like Candy or something

I personally think it sounds silly on a grown woman, but that's just my opinion.

I also hate Piper, but I don't think it sounds any worse depending on the age. I just don't get names like this which have an obvious meaning or derivative, but it isn't actually a pleasant thing. I can understand using a name for a word if it is something like Summer, but why would you want to call your kid Piper? I hate occupation names in general, I don't see the point in naming someone a job title. It's not as bad as Hunter I suppose.
