[identity profile] heatherejc.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

We are at eat other's throats trying to agree upon a name for our baby boy due in September. (We had absolutely no problem agreeing on a girl's name and then found out we were having a boy - darn.) We've each gone through several books and websites and come up with separate lists of names for each of us to draw from. Nothing substantial has come from that. I have a name that I love that he totally hates (Harrison). He has a name he's really fond of (Hayden) but it's too trendy and gender neutral for me. Today, he pored over 8000 boys names and came up with a list of about 80. From that, I've nixed over half of them. Here are my favorites from his list.

Aidan (little fire) - love the name, but I'm way too afraid my kid will be one of 10 Aidan's in his class

Alden (old friend, wise protector)

Ansel (blessed, angel)

Eben (stone of help)

Emory/Emery (bravery & power, ruler of work)

Harris (home ruler) - I think he added this one as a consolation prize since he hates Harrison.

Holden (deep valley or kindly, gracious)

Keirnan (little dark one)

Nolan (chariot fighter, champion, famous and noble)

Teagan (little poet or attractive)

Tenneyson (son of Dennis) - Not that my husband's name is Dennis, but I like it anyway. Would need a nickname though, since it's long, and we can't think of any.

Wyndham (winda's water meadow) - Although, I much prefer Wynden over Wyndham. Either way, we like that the kid's nickname could be Wyn.

Okay, things to note...our last name is Close, and my husband's not too fond of alliteration or assonance. Plus, 3 out of 4 of the babies born in our group of friends all have names that start with a hard C/K sound, so we are trying to avoid that.

Please...offer as many suggestions as possible...

If you actually add up all the different spellings of Aidan on the SSA website (going by percentages), there are more Aidans out there than Jacobs (which is listed as the #1 name). I really wish they would find a way to combine spellings of names on that website.
